Its a steady 60mpg (+/- a few) for me - almost regardless of riding conditions and style.

80 mpg?!  Are you sure about that?  Do you weigh 99 pounds and only go 55 MPH in top gear?  If I get 55 mpg, it's a good tank.  I usually average high 40s.

Yep certain. Last four tank fulls = 70, 72, 82 and 75 MPG. Mixed speeds 30 thru 70-ish. Long runs help though. Rarely ride less than 50 miles at a time. But I ain't big boned.

I put a gallon in mine eight years ago and that same gallon was still in there when I took the tank off to empty out the sludge.  So, I think the beans/fart thing is right.  The answer to your question is another question:  How long do you WANT it to last?

That's nut'n. I merely Thought about adding some juice... No. No... Actually... yes this is it... actually I didn't even think that. What I did was THOUGHT about waving an oily rag near it. I didn't wave the oily rag near it, just Thought about waving it near it. And that was 138 years ago. And the thing still runs. So it runs on the Thought of the smell of an oily rag. Talk about economical!

Tell that to people of today and they don't believe you  :dunno_white:

You guys don't even know how to spell eekonowmikle. Each time I get home from a ride I have to siphon fuel out to stop the tank overflowing.

I suggest you tie bare wire around your gonads and connect ends to positive and negative leads of starter. Everytime you start bike it will remind you to get gas? :thumb:

Hey, are you the same guy that had the bike running on one cylinder?
Present   :embarrassed:

Its fixed now though. Got 40 mpg to my last tank and that was with a passenger the whole day. I really did get like 15 before though. I would hit reserve at about 45-50 miles. SO glad those days are over . . . .  :thumb:

Me too. But worse. You see. When I go to a gas station it isn't to fill up my bike from their underground tanks it's to fill up their underground tanks from my bike. That's because I got the bike with the Magic added and it turns air into gas. Cool

I don't believe it.  Best tank I ever had was 67 mpg, all highway and cruising through a state forest with stock engine and 17-tooth front sprocket.  Tried like hell to maximize mileage on that tank.  I guess I can believe 70, but 82?  No way.

People can get 80mpg in a civic, it's called hypermiling.

I read somewhere about a GS getting around 100mpg and I think 82mpg is difficult but possible.

black and silver twin

My avarage is 52-54MPG thats 50% cruising on highway and 50% full throttle city. But on the last trip I took I got 67mpg cruisin on the freeway at 85mph. these #s are with my full list if mods installed. when it was stock my gs got a few mpg better

Had never heard of Hypermilers... my education continues thanks to this forum...  :woohoo:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermiling explains all about those Nempi-maniacs.  Some techniques are simply good driving habits, like reading the road ahead and adjusting your speed gadually... much better than having to slam on your brakes last minute.

I have a 98 GS500 with a V&H exhaust, jets, etc (my brother in law did it). It get's about 38mpg.
I also recently started riding an 07 stock which doesn't get there nearly as quickly. It get's about 52mpg over the course of the summer.
I fill up my 98 and run until I get to 150 miles then I fill up. My 07 I fill up at 180mpg.
You get better millage with a full tank than an empty one. you should always fill up.

... 180mpg.

1) 180 mpg or 180 miles?

2)  A full tank should be less economical due to the extra fuel weight.  It wouldn't be affected as much as a car obviously, but help me understand this one.

...bear in mind that I'm using Imperial gallons, not US gallons. US gallons are about 0.8 Imperial gallons. So, UK MPG is more impressive than US MPG. 82 MPG UK = 67 MPG US.
