Man I had to overcome my cheapness and shell out 500 to buy my bike. Now today I caused an accident and probally am paying out of pocket to avoid insurance since being 20, they're going to jack my insurance sky high. I was trying to make a left onto a road, the first lane I would have to cross was a turn lane. I saw a guy put on his blinker and slow down a good bit, I assumed he was going to make the left where I was sitting......wrong.....His ranger had suspension damage and my accord has hood, bumper, and fender damage. All of this coming out of pocket is going to ruin me. Making 9.30 an hour isn't fun. My girlfriend and I are saving up to move out in the future. I have 6000, she has 8800 and I feel terrible that I'm so far beind and I splurged on my bike this year and the last one last year. I'll be finished my AA in the spring but am thinking about going to school for computers, so that's even more time without a decent job. When am I going to propose and how the hell am I going to buy a ring. FFFFFFFMMMMMMMMMLLLLLLLLLL

Errr I was trying to make a right.....

So how did this happen if you were trying to make a right turn? or was it a left like you originally said?

It sounds like you might do better to just take it through your insurance, depending on how much it's going to cost. Your rate will go up, but you'll deal with that small amounts over the next couple years, as opposed to dishing out the money you saved up. Do you have your car payed off? It sounds like you'd do better just having liability if you'd rather pay everything out of pocket than deal with higher rates anyway.

Are you guys trying to buy a house? or where exactly are you planning on moving that $15k isn't enough?

Good luck with all. I got married a year ago, and bought my house 2 years ago after graduating, so I know how it feels to be up to your eyes in stress trying to figure out where all the money's going to come from though. Gotta say though, you're doing WAAAYY better than I was if you've already got $15,000 stashed up.

Heh, it was my car that I screwed up, not my bike. Here's an explaination

Blue is what I THOUGHT he was going to do but his blinker was only to indicate he was getting into the turn lane. Red is what happened.

Oh and housing is rediculously expensive in MD. It's basically a 800 dollar minimum for a complete hole in the wall. We're not looking to rent so we're trying to save up as much as we can to buy furniture and what and put a decent down payment on a house. We originally thought 5k each was good, now it's 10K.

The Buddha

Did he run a stop or did you ?
Who was speeding ? You ? him ? ...

Oh yea ... dont fix your bike.
That should save you lots of $$$ ... my owrk here is done ... yea you take it form here now.
Cool.

Budda you confuse me so much lol. No speeding, he didn't have a stop sign, I did, I didn't run it though. I just thought he was going to turn there instead of 50 more feet.

I hate when people don't know how to use their turn signal right. You should look at the traffic laws, there's something that says how far away from a turn you're supposed to use a turn signal. If he put his turn signal on way too early for the turn he wanted, and instead in the space that made it look like he was turning early, you might be able to put some of the blame on him and decide to each fix your own car.

I'm not saying lie and blame everything on him, but if he put on his turn signal and slowed down at an intersection, and then changed his mind and sped up, he should share some of the blame. You just have to use good judgement pulling into traffic, it's not like people can be expected to wait until there's absolutely no one on the road to ever pull out somewhere.

All that being said.... your picture won't load while I'm at work, so I'll have to wait until I'm home to look at it to even see what happened.

I guess we got lucky on our house. Pittsburgh is pretty cheap to begin with, but I don't think we ended up putting more than $3k into buying our house, and that includes that $400 or so towards the home inspection and everything else. We kinda paid it as we went, and definitely didn't just have $2k-3k in the bank to hand over. I think we got away with it because it was our first home. I'll definitely have more saved up and do it better next time. I'm dreading the next move though. Probably won't happen for 5 years or so, but it took us a year and a half of looking to find our house, and I don't want to imagine trying to time that with selling our current house so we can just move from one to the other. I'll either have to save a ton, so I can make a downpayment, and then have some left to keep paying on the old house until we sell it, and hope it happens before I run out of money, or else I'd have to sell mine, move into an apartment and put all of our junk in storage, and then start looking for a new one, although we'd have the cash now for a good downpayment(and probably a motorcycle :D ) . The hardest part of that plan is finding someone who wants to rent us a decent house with 2 60lb dogs and 3 cats.

The Buddha

Dude ... you're not supposed to stop and drive @ a stop sign. You're supposed to stop, wait for the road to be clear and then drive.
Anyway ... I dont have an answer for you, but I'll buy the accord if you wanna sell it. Being Injun I am violating some commandment somwhere that says ... Thou shalt drive a honda accord.
I've never owned a honda or a toyota ... that has to be some form of sin somewhere ...
Cool.

God you really aren't getting the picture here, I sat at the stop sign a good minute. It's too hard to explain, I thought that picture did it justice. Did you send my jets out?

ohgood

lesson : never trust a signal.

think about it. people fly through intersections @ 50 mph with nothing stopping other drivers other than a red light, 40 feet off the ground, assuming they pay attention. NEVER trust a signal.

sorry you got toasted, file your insurance- that is what insurance is for. you savings are for you, not some schmuck that can't figure out his indicator. :)

REPORT THE ACCIDENT TO YOUR INSURANCE!!!!  THAT'S WHAT IT'S THERE FOR!!!!

I have a 500 dollar deductible. Waiting to see an estimate on the body work. Being 20 years old and adding on an accident will really screw me over the next 3 years I believe. I'm really going to have to think twice about peoples intentions with blinkers lol. Leason learned, luckily no one was hurt and not much of alot of damage.

annguyen1981

That $500 deducible is to get your car AND his car fixed up...

AND it's a small insurance policy in case he has medical problems related to the accident.

Friend of my stepdad said he'll fix it for cheaper so maybe I'll make money off of insurance lol. I doubt it. He quoted 2500 for my car. Deffinately going insurance lol

The Buddha

OK so did the cops show up and write you up ? if not he's SOL.

Now you were there for a minute ? what was he doing that time ? If he showed up 2 seconds before you leave, and he didn't have a stop sign its still your fault.

Yea not worth 2500 bucks. Prolly buy another car.

Cool.

Yea cops came. I'm not at all denying it's my fault.

tucsondude

I have paid out of pocket twice for accidents(800+1200 for other vehicles). both times i admitted fault and the other guy was very chill(I had them sign a notarized document(me too), not admitting fault and to pay for any damages etc). however if it looks like it MAY cost more than 1500 out of pocket, other guy is fishy at all, or anyone was potentially injured just go through insurance. I am 21, and as far as insurance is concerned my record is clean.

ps. people forget their lights, ignore them, are lost, staring at lint on the dash board, or forget their kickstand (lol) quite often.
