This is a Kat 600 stem modified by buddha.  It makes putting katana forks onto your GS easy.  I paid $50 for it.  It didn't show up until after I decided to make my own stem, so I have no use for it.  SOLD

My 90 GS500E has spread itself across the nation.

If someone hasn't bought this ... this oughta help.

I am not going to make any more of these, my machinist crapped out or his machine did, and I ended up losing 1 of the 4 I did in that session.
It also costs $50 plus your stem basically 20 bucks for the stem lets say, and took a while. Some of which was a logistical delay, but the working time is rather unpredictable I have learnt.
I have come across a few stems where the threads dont go on right cos the bearing has wore it and hardened it. It chunks up when threading. This one was the best I had in the session I did ...

Essentially, he's taking a big loss, and this part may be the last one to come out of the monster garage.

Sorry about the delay dude, but some of it was me waiting to see if you sold to someone, I'd save shipping cost for you. I'd have sent to your buyer direct.

Cool.

-if- you want to try this stem modifying thing again, give a holler. it would be a nice change from 10 Ton forgings to do something tiny again (and profit a little!)

I managed a few batches quite well. Of the 4 I did this time, the guy's digital 4 jaw died apparently and we had to make do. That new 4 jaw tore one up.
Then the others worked fine, but the area where the bearing was sitting ended up with chunking threads. This one came out fine, but the other 2 are OK and well ... better. They hold the locknut just fine, but not by any means perfect.
I am in effect good, I have a bunch of FE's and all the stems have been made. I actually ahve 1 bike that needs a 1/4 inch longer one than a kat 6. May do a plug and weld or make a whole stem or whatever. No clue yet. But for now I am fine.
I dont have a big number I may be selling ... so the whole exercise may be pointless.

I believe the 600 and 750 forks are basically identical, other than the 750 forks are an inch longer.  I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.   :D

So...yes you can.

Yes 750 and 600 stems are identical. Forks yes are longer and the upper triple is different on a 750 but it does take the 600's stem. Same part number, 89-96 600 and 750's stems are same part numbers I mean. Check ron ayers.

Jeremy_nash: BTW I hate the 750 upper triples. I have a set I am mangling to fit an XS 650 and for that its fine, but otherwise its total bs. So bulky, and if you ever crash with those on your bike, it will hold the forks so rigidly it will bend your frame. A 600 triple will break and save your frame possibly. I'd go to a 600 upper triple if I were you ...

Really if this dont sell at 40 shipped, and its 10 to ship anywhere outside of the 100 miles by your house ... I really know these are not a worthwhile business.

Much like everything else ... GSTwinners talk a good game ... anything that requires a bit more work than the 10 minute shock swap and its wooaaaaaahhhhhh ... that's complicated.

Its a 20 buck stem at a minimum, and machining it was 50 ... not even counting shipping etc as well as the fact that only 3 of the 5 stems I had came out alive ... its under 1/2 price.
Unfortunatley I cannot get em done any cheaper ... even if I can get em any more ... it means finding a new machinist and people with 4 jaw digital lathes with metric threading capablity dont quite grow on trees even in Nascar country ...

talk about gstwinners talking a good game, I did a katana fe swap so I wouldn't have to replace my fork seals!!  I definatly want the stem,     and thanks for the advice buddha, but I think it'll be easier to just not wreck, that way I dont have to worry about the frame, lol

Put a 600 top triple on ... you can run the guages on it too better than a 750 one.
Lighter too ...
And lower too ...
And cooler as well ...

I dunno, this stem machining took a lot of legwork for me to find the right people. I had 3 I did whole FE's on and 2 people I did stems for including this one. Seems like a lot of effort for that. I think I did more stems pre machining than post machining.

And there are always front end fights in spring.
