I have been reading the post for about 6 months (Funny I aquired a GS500 about then, go figure (a new 2003 model what a champ))
I have been reading about the exhaust system V&H, Yoshi etc unfortantly here in australia no one imports them.
So while looking for some down here I came across an australian company that makes full systems.
The name Formula 1 they make 18 different models for the GS from slip on mufflers to full systems prices range from $580 for replacement muffler to $1354.00 for a full sports system with carbon fibre Muffler.

I have not tried them yet as I'm waiting for my warranty to run out first but thought at least its another option for everyone else and the OZ$ is still bugger all to everybody else's $
One last thing the bloke whoo thought of the cigerette lighter fitting your a champ put it on mine and went camping had lights, phone charger I ended up better set up then my 2 mates riding new BMW 1100R (suckers)

I can't comment on the quality but those IXIL cans look really sweet in the pictures

The exchange isn't as bad with the US as it probably is with the Pound or the Euro.  According to Yahoo, its about 1 USD is equal to 1.28 AUD

Those systems look nice but I think they are a little pricey.  More than 25% of what I paid for the whole bike brand new.  Your money and my money are almost the same.

sorry forgot about exchange rate in canada it is much the same which is good for overseas holiday, as I have had friends go to canada and say great place and canadians who come here and say Oh its a lot like canada A (love that accent).
Its probably a better option for those in the states and UK.
I know this is a little off topic but how can you people cope with no riding in winter (snow and all)? Id have to Hibernate but thankfully winter here is the best time not too hot and funnily enough bugger all rain.

They do look good dont they hopefully they look just as good on the bike pity I cant find any sought of test on them.

Also don't forget the progressive springs for the front fork - best ~AU$100 spent on the GS(purchased through my local shop in Brissie).  I have also managed to get the K&N importers Rocket Industries to get me the K&N pods of for the GS (AU$60 but with 8-10 weeks delivery) - ordered through my local shop after been helped out by Nick @ Rocket.

For exhausts we are pretty spoilt with great local manufacturers - there is also Roo Racing (bad website but check out the results of a test done by a bike mag - came out tops), Staintune, Pipemasters, Motor Cycle Exhaust Prof etc etc

Don't expect miracles from Staintune- they don't make a stock item for the GS500 so will need your bike for a week or so to build one from scratch (Sorry, Scratch, no offence meant   ).  Also they are in southern NSW so it might be a bit of a trip for you.  Their quality is good but their prices reflect that.  I have been very happy with the one I got from Formula1.  Peter at Pipemasters is very accommodating but again will need your bike for a week or so.  I had an SR500 once that he made a pipe for and it was quite good and reasonably priced so worth a look, especially for the guys and gals in Brissie.  Good luck.  

Thanks conrad your a legend thats a big help the front forks will need the new springs, but now that I adjusted the rear its made it alot better but still could do with the replacement springs.

I just e-mailed a Micron importer in the US. I hope they are cheaper and offer carbon fibre.

Sorry conrad forgot to mention rang staintune they told me the same and not really prepared to leave the bike with them as there is riding to be done lots and lots  

Good to hear you are getting lotsa time in the saddle Wilson.  Watch out for the tuning bug -- once you start it is hard to stop    

This forum is great as there are quite a few really really helpful people, albeit some don't really help with the tuning adiction when you see what they have done and plan to do to their GS's :mrgreen:

I don't buy regular alkaline batteries anymore - why do that when you can recharge your NiMH units as you roll down the road?  Besides charging the cell phone, I keep batteries topped up for use in a utility LED light, a 2-AA Maglite, a PrincetonTec LED headlamp, an FRS radio, and a digital camera.

Many of the southwest states don't have snow like the eastern guys.  Those of us in California get to ride pretty much year round as long as you can take a bit of rain here and there.  The snow typically stays in the mountains and we don't get the hot (summer) rains like some southern and eastern states do

glad to hear that it also makes me relise why Aust & US have most of the worlds best bike racers. We get to train all year round, I guess Italy is much the same but sponsorship also seems to help in racing (just look at Barros).
But I dont want to start an argument about which country is best although probably have.

Well we have our fair share of snow up here!  

Thank goodness this forum exists so I can at least TALK about motorcycles!  I am also working on fixing up my '89 Katana.

Thats the sought of thing i was wondering must be hell to wake up knowing the bikes in the garage and and the snows on the road

I have only seen snow along the Gulf Coast maybe three times and it was barely enough to cover the ground.  We get maybe two months of cold weather so we can ride almost all year round.
