Stunt bike set up

I know there are not a lot of people on this board into stunting but I had a lot of downtime while I was waiting for coats of paint to dry so I took some pics of Piglet's stunt bike.  These are all the basic modifications done to prepare a bike for stunt riding.  This bike is a CBR 600 f4i but the basic mods are the same for any bike.

This bike was a nice low mileage f4i that had an unfortunate run in with a deer.  It had lots of cosmetic damage which made it a cheap buy but mechanically the bike was still in good shape (including the forks).  The front fairing and headlight bucket/mounting were destroyed and the right side fairing was all cracked up.  Pig wanted to keep the bike marginally street legal so an aftermarket headlight set up was added.  The side fairings on the bike came off another less wrecked up F4.




A crash cage is a must to protect the engine when dropped

A big ass rear sprocket makes standing the bike up easy



The controls have been modified too.  What would normally be the clutch lever now actuates the rear brake.  This allows control of the brake while the right foot is off the peg.  The short silver handle controls the clutch.  Due to the large rear sprocket the clutch is not used much.  This bike also has longer aftermarket clip ons and kevlar grips. The kevlar grips are the latest and greatest thing on the market but so far are only available in this color



The rear seat has had a hole cut in it so you can put a foot in it.  Kudos to Kay for the fine upholstery work (Note: May not be Jared approved   ;) )

I can't see the pictures as usual while I'm at work, but I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of the same setup for the passenger pegs that are actually on the bike. Is it the cage that bolts on where the peg mounts usually do, then has the extra bar that gues under the tail to connect them both, and then has bigger knurled pegs?

I've always been curious about these. I'm sure kids have broken passenger pegs off, but I think I would prefer snapping a passenger peg on occasion instead of twisting my entire subframe, which is what I would assume will happen when you put a cage on the subframe that's stronger than the subframe itself. Maybe you can shed some light on this one for me?

Structurally sound/cosmetically damaged crashed bikes are the way to go! That's the only reason I don't give people a hard time when they're obsessed with scratches and minor cracks in their fairings. They keep the possibility open for me to get a perfectly good bike for a cheap price when it should've been a naked bike in the first place!

This is exactly what you are describing.  I'm sure it could break the subframe if it hits right but I've never personally seen it.  This bike has been dropped plenty of times.  The engine case guard is a lot wider so it hits the ground first in most falls and absorbs the brunt of the impact.  Mainly it keeps the swing arm, brake, sprocket and all from hitting the ground.

That's the nicest job I've ever seen on a back seat as well. I usually see guy fold the flaps under and staple them to the bottom. The other plus side to the hole in the rear saddle, is it makes it much easier to get your keys and wallet out from under the seat!

Just don't make it too clean. It's no fun to watch when things are too perfect. Nothing can make stunts look lame like seeing a guy that's so clean that he's wearing leathers and one of these goofy helmets like him.....


I don't condone kids being jerks on the highway around other cars, but watching kids go crazy is what made stunting popular. What's fun about watching some kid ride around in a parking lot going 5mph, even if he is on one wheel.

He needs to dent that tank of F4. other than that, nice setup.  Yep you guessed it, im one of the very few on this site that likes stunting. classmate of mine's cousin is actually a paid stunter with the Street Fighterz team from St. Louis.

Aww, I like stunting too, but leave the poor tank alone. I always feel so bad when I see tanks smashed in.

Yeah, i agree about the tank.  Stunting is alright and i understand what that dent is there for but when i was looking for my GS replacement i saw a guy walk in to the kawi dealer, buy a brand new black zx1000r and once he signed all the paperwork he took a rubber mallet to the tank and dented it in after loaded in his pickup, i cringed with every thud.  The sales man didn't get it at all and was quite shocked, a lot like the salesman at that crappy car dealership that Jeremy from top gear bought a crappy efficient car and then smashed it right in front of the dealership  :icon_lol: :icon_lol:
