Hey I've been looking at headlight options and I think the shiver headlight could be used on my gs, I took a look and have the mounting figured out.

What I'm not sure about is the electrical, I was just wondering if someone more enlightened then myself could help me out with possible problems/workarounds
before I lay down the 4 bills. thanks

If needed I could dismember my buddies bike for pictures

ohgood

$400 for a light, on a gs ? well, ok. there isn't much for electrics. two wars for the light, and then your signals.

Wicked thanks, yea 400 - a big price to pay to be unique, but unless your gonna go stock or acerbis your gonna be paying this much anyway - for the bike side b series or that urban headlight that you have to shim, besides from my experience most aftermarket headlights suck balls when it comes to actually lighting  the road at night (see acerbis)

i'll post pics when im done, thanks

I'm sure he would love that!

Can you give us any info on the Shiver light? Is it a single bulb headlight? That would be your best scenario and you might be able to set it up with nothing more than cutting and soldering some wires. Things get tricky when you start trying to switch from 1 bulb headlights to multiple bulbs or even LEDs. See if you can find some more info on the headlight and let us know!

Nevermind.... I did some looking around and just found some pictures. Looks like it's 2 bulbs, so you're going to have to find someone who knows a bit about electrical work to let you know how it actually needs set up. It kinda looks like a GSF headlight. Ever think about just mounting a F model headlight on your bike? Not as nice as the Shiver headlight, but I bet you could find one for under $50, you'd still have decent lighting, and it's already got a plug that will fit.

GS headlight is what I have on it was just a hack-job and im  not too happy with it, i like the aprilia because it was made for solo mounting.
i took a look at my buddies shiver this morning

yea has 2 lights but a weird fuckin' plug i popped the back off (as best as i could) and i looks relatively simple 2 wires coming each bulb, my theory is the high beams coming off the gs are 2 wires that wont be a problem but the main hookup for the low beam (on my gs) has 3 wires, Black&white/white/yellow.

I'm just not too sure which I should splice, or if i need another part to go between, again I can take his headlight off and take pics but honestly i'd rather not uness i have to.

I think that since the GS is a single bulb for low and high beam the new headlight you are looking at is 2 that the wiring should still be fairly simple.  The three wires currently hooked up to your GS headlight should be a Ground, Low Beam, and High Beam and to hook it up to the 2 bulb configuration you would have to split the ground to run to both and then just connect the Low Beam live to the low beam bulb and the High Beam to the High Beam bulb and if you want to make it so when you have your high beams on that both lights are lit you can run the high beam wire to both bulbs but would need something in the line to allow the current to only flow one way.  I am almost positive that if you searched for the dominator lights set-up that someone has a wiring diagram for what i am trying to describe.

Thanks bass excellent info i however failed to mention that my bike is in fact an F series and does have seperate wiring for high and low (its got the 3-prong for the low beam) and another pair coming out of the same bundle that have a clip connected to the high beam.

Theres plenty of sweet unquie headlights out there that cost no wear near 400. i got mine for 40 plus shipping, (yes its brand new, not ebay or craigslist or anything like that) and ive only seen 2 other custom bikes that have the same light.  and it lights very well.

and yes, we would all love pictures. pictures are my life.

Meh, well i've been hunting for a headlight for about 8 months shops, online, ect only found 2 i would ever put on my bike (i fuckin' hate round headlights)

the shiver's or the bike side b4 (600$ +shipping+paint)

so far as looks goes i dont think i'll get better then the shiver (imo) and the 4 bills is accepable for me (I ride my bike year round and dont own a car) so this is my only transportation expense so why not.

But back on subject can anybody clarify the wiring on a 06' gs500f's headlight. high beams, 2 wires ok, no problem. low beams the plug coming from the bike has 3 (blackwhite/white/yellow) the headlight unit has 2 wires, i just need to know what these 3 wires are specifically for so i can take the 2 i need (i hope)

thanks

High beam is yellow, low is white, and ground is black. One of the 2 wires on your new light is high and one is low, and the unit is ground through the way its mounted. It might not ground when its put on the GS so you may have to add a third ground wire from Shiva unit.

the ground is going to be the black with white stripe, the low beam is the white wire

Are you talking about the new Shiva headlight?
Do you know this for sure or are you guessing? (not saying this in a sarcastic/snobby way even though it might appear that why in text) Cause i dont know for sure, but i would think that one wire is for high, and one is for low, and the light is grounded through the mounting bolts.  otherwise he wouldnt have high beams.

Jagged, what colors are the 2 wires on the shiva headlight?

No i don't think the yellow is the high beam the high beam was plugged in via the second plug (tagged in pic)

all this trouble for one damn wire, thanks again for your time guys

Wires on the shiver are black and green respectively

damnit keep hitting quote not modify

your low beam plug has high beam power too, just not used on the F model.  you can swap the yellow and white position on your factory plug, and just plug it directly into your shiver headlight, and you will be good to go  :thumb:
