Hello all. New here. I've got a new to me '92 WERA legal track bike that I was luvin the heck out on my 2nd track day and something happened internally with the motor. Now  I don't know squat about engine building but it's got a dyno sheet for 57hp.  It lost power and was noisy but not oiling the track and not smoking when I shut it off. I'd be happy to put a stock motor in and continue to learn to ride the thing, but can anyone recomend a buider in the southern pa baltimore dc area?

Big Shot

Don't know of any builders in your area but i do have a race motor i'd be willing to sell.  Pm me if you're interested...

If you are just looking to swap in a complete engine it is not a hard job.  How far are you from Baltimore?

-Jessie

crustybmer

i'm in york about 45 minutes to balt

BaltimoreGS

That's not too far.  Any luck lining up a replacement engine?

-Jessie

cyberdork

Alright how about crusty and baltimoregs drive to my house which is around halfway between your locations. BaltimoreGS can replace your motor and he can paint my bike. It's a win win for everyone....except maybe BaltimoreGS.....

The Buddha

The buddha will build your engine ... Build, like in build up ... as in ... man there is a lot of crud build up in your carbs.

Yea ... sorry ripping off baltimoreGS is Illegal, unless I also get a cut ... so I get the motor that is removed right ...

Yea win win win now ... whoo hoooo ...

Cool.

I paint barns really well :icon_razz: I just picked up scottinpa's nearly complete bike.    Would like to put that one back together. Will get the top off motor soon and see if it can be saved. thanx all

BaltimoreGS

Unemployment has left me with lots of free time for wrenching   ;)

Jesse,
Is that free wrenching? :icon_razz: I don't paint but do have machining & access to a shop to offer in trade. I'm off this coming week too. If you care to drive north I can provide lunch at a diner here in town with actual menus, plates and  grumpy bitter waitresses.

BaltimoreGS

Like I said, I currently have free time so we can probably line something up.  I have an interview Monday and a radiator to put in my Dad's truck which I'll probably do on Tuesday but otherwise I should be free.  Swapping a complete engine in is not a particularly hard job so I wouldn't mind giving you a hand with that.  Food and gas money would be appreciated.  Have you found a replacement engine?

-Jessie

For the week coming up, I'll be looking at the top end of the track bike to see if it can saved without removing the motor.  And cleaning and test assembling the bike in a box that I got from scottinpa. The spare motor that I have in house from that bike.... I'm thinking should be looked at before putting in any bike.  I won't need the track bike 'till Roger Lyle's track day on 4/12/10, so there's probably going to be alot of farting around on this.  :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:I apologize for my lack of pace.

BaltimoreGS

Have you done a compression test on the engine that's in the bike?

-Jessie

crustybmer

Much thanks to Jessie for his help in pulling the motor.  As it turns out, I have a broken crank.

The Buddha

WTF ... how did you break a crank ... bored it to 900 and set it to 15 compression ... WTF.

Cool.
Buddha.

lol  i haven't seen a 'racing fuel' post in a month at least !

yes, i know this bike actually needed it ot prevent detonation, but it's still funny to see it on a gs forum :D

I'm sure everyone's seen a broken crank, but there's method to my madness. I checked out the case, bearings, piston tops, valves -  seems ok. I'm guessing the angle cut on the primary gear held the break together. Any thoughts on replacing this crank? Buddha do you take trade-ins?
