36-58 foot pounds if you have the nut with cotter pin

43.5 - 69.5 foot pounds if you have the self locking nut

Unless you have a calibrated torque wrench its unlikely to be very accurate so aim for the mid-point value of the stated figure.

was that an OEM self locking nut? Would I need to change axle, mine has the pin.

Depends on how hard you tighten it.   :icon_lol:

When did the GS come with a self locking nut?! I have an 07 and I don't have one. Mine is the one with the cotter pin. Because of my swing arm issues I can't use a cotter pin anyway, but I would MUCH prefer a self locking nut.

i dont know what years had em, i have a 97 with cotter pin. i think i like the pin more than i would the self locking nut, cause the pin you just slide out and untighten and put it back in, but it seems to me that a lock nut cant be used again once its taken off.

All year US models have the cotter pin and UK models have the self locking nut.  Not sure about rest of the world, it's a matter of local regs if any.

Ah, Ok. Guess I'll stick with my cotter pin then. Not like I need to replace it anyway...
