I'm looking to pick up a valve shim tool for a clearance check, but I'm a bit confused.

Bikebandit has these two listed, but aside from price, I can't tell the difference:

If anyone could shed some light on the matter, that would be great.
Thanks.

A3224874 will not work. The pic is for all tools in their inventory for a shim tool.
You need the third from right and a good tweezer - no your wife's eye brow plucking thing will not work, ot atleast not for more than 1-2 times ... some manly strong ass one ... its gotta get under the shim and pry it out and be tiny at the same time ...

The http://www.bikebandit.com/product/A3224570 tool says suzuki and its all that will work. Its spoon shaped with increasing ramp closer to the handle. 3rd from right.

You need suzuki tool, yamaha tool wont work, kawi also wont work ... and on a yamaha the suzuki tool works only on the outer cyls ... and there is 2 different yamaha tools ... radian FJ etc use 1 type and maxim etc use different one.

Cool.

I kept grabbing stuff out of the toolbox until I found something that worked...then I ordered the right tool. Bass ackwards as usual. :cookoo:

So I just checked that ....570 tool, and it says its for GS550, 750 etc., the older 4 cyl bikes. Just want to check that is thecorrect one for the GS500, its a little far to go back to the store from here!  :D Thanks.

i dont know why mole bumped this, but heres a $1 tool that works better than any fancy valve tool on a 2 valve/cyl motor

pop out spark plugs
take a long zip tie and fold it in half
turn the motor over until the valve in question is open
stick folded end of zip tie through spark plug hole btwn open valve/head
rotate motor so valve closes

the valve is being held upen now by the zip tie, this wont hurt the valve/head cuz its soft plastic

now the rockers are free, go ahead and take as much time as you want to pop the shim off, measure it, replace it, losst it, whatever

its afoweifhaw magic
