Last year i purchased a slightly crashed 2003 gs500e. Along with some fender scratches, broken mirrors and a dented tank weresome bent handle bars.
Iv decided to give the bike an overhaul and give it more of a street fighter look. So instead of just replacing the bent bars, want to change the whole triple tree to the older style of split bars

Summed up: Can i put older style triple tree (say from an 89) onto a 2003 model??

any response is appreciated, thankyou

if by split style you mean the clip-on style, then itll have to be from an 89. thats the only year that had clip-ons stock.  as for transfering over, im not possitive but i think that the triples and stems are all the same.

Europe and canada had clip on's through many more years.
To fit an 89 US spec one on a newer GS you would actually have to bend the handle tubes ~10 degrees outward. I used to do it out of surplus I had ... however a year ago I broke the bender and I dont have any 7/8th tubing left and I aint buying 100ft to make em.
Cool.

You can also look around online and see if you can find any 37mm clipons from other bikes. You can put those on and just keep your stock triple. If you put the bars on top of the triples you just have to slide the forks up, if you want to put them under the top triple you need to get new headlight mounts, but you can find them on ebay for $15, no biggie there.
