I threw a bearing in my 2004 gs500 but the head is good, and the pistons look good. If you need something I've got it torn down and can pull it off for you just message me and let me know.

gregvhen

does anyone know if this 04 head will fit my 97 and will my 97 carbs still line up right?

jeremy_nash

carbs will fit fine, boots may be different though, I remember seeing something about the boots changing at some point.  the head wont have the tach drive in it, so you would need to use an aftermarket tach, or swap to a newer gauge cluster from a gs500. the wiring is simple, I have done it, and others have too
gsxr shock
katana FE
99 katana front rim swap
vapor gauge cluster
14 tooth sprocket
95 on an 89 frame
lunchbox
V&H ssr2 muffler
jetted carbs
150-70-17 pilot road rear
120-70-17 sportmax front
sv650 rear wheel
sv650 tail swap
gsxr pegs
GP shift

Boots for the carb may be a non issue ... or a small issue. They sell the new style boots for the old bikes too at this point. However its not a perfect fit, if you dont have an air box your carbs could slide out, I'd brace them against that with some sorta strap but otherwise they are fine. 04 carbs in 97 boots may be a perfect fit, you could be fine using new boots as well. Could be the best of both worlds.

Hey Blackbird! I'm interested in your stator and maybe the rotor.  I saw your reply to my topic! Take a look there, pls.

blackbird79

got it, and UPS has a shipping center right by the shop I work at so Ill stop in at lunch

gregvhen

Buddha and jeremey, thanks for the responses, tach is not an issue since i dont use one now anyway and i do still use my airbox but your saying, they may slide out otherwise due them no a perfect fit?  would they leak air then or would they seal pretty easily with clamps on them?

No, pls don't send it via UPS, they're way too expensive.
I usually buy via ebay and it should cost about USD15 to send both stator and rotor via USPS priority mail...

Send me a PM telling me how much do you want for both parts, you can check the shipping costs at usps.com.

Tks!

I think 04+ carbs will fit the 89-00 boots quite fine. The 89-00 carbs dont fit the 04+ boots that well. Of course I could be wrong. I have not run 04 carbs on a bike so far.
Then 04+ boots and 04+ carbs would work fine I'd think, of course they may also not ... as in the new boots suzuki sells may have garbage fitment into any carb.

I believe the problem is that the 04 carbs have the seating groove a little too far forward and the 89-00 carbs hit the front edge of the 04+ boot with the leading edge of their mouth before their seating groove clicks into the corresponding part of the 04 boots. Fit the boots on the carbs outside and you'd know for sure. Lube em all up or even use like gasket maker on them - not silicone, gasket maker.

jeremy_nash

if you use your 97 carb boots on the new head, carb fitment will be a non-issue

GSfranco760

ok so i take it that the crank is in pretty bad condition or is it still repairable ? but i would like the pistons does it come wit the rods? when i took my apart it had a broken piston and rod that looks like it kinda of melted and bigger bore and a crank that looks like a bearing welded on to it.  devestating  condsindering its my first bike. so ps me if you still got them

Crank and rod problems usually ruin the pistons where the pins go through.
I have a motor that has the pistons sliding side ways by almost 1/2 inch.
The rod bearings when they go make the small end go sideways a lot and makes enough heat to melt the piston bearing area and wallow it out.
