What are those thin metal shim things on the rear brake pads and what do they do? It doesn"t look like much! Do you need them? I'm putting the High temp RTV stuff on to try and heal the squeal and was wondering if I should coat those shim things as well.

Anyone have any ideas? :dunno_white:

Thanks!

Those are called brake pad shims.  Their job is to reduce the squeal noises.  If left out they will not hurt brake performance.  Put your RTV between the pad and the shim.  100% silicone caliper slide lube works too.

Just learn to enjoy the squeal. And when pulling up at lights and the like, people will think it's the car behind you  :thumb:
