Alright so I'm looking to make a streetfighter/muscle bike outta this thing. And was wondering what is the best rear tail fairing (that's seats pass) that fits this bike....or I was thinking of keeping the seat and getting a fairing that wraps around the stock seat. Thanx!

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, but as far as new tails for the bike, if you want to replace the whole thing the only options I've really seen done without real knowledge about what you're doing, is the 98-02 R1 tail, 98-05 R6 tail, Buell X1 lightning(requires welding), and a ducati monster(also requires some welding).

the yamaha tails can be made to fit right on the GS subframe. It will look cleaner and be easier to make mounts if you can weld, but it can still be done just by making some crappy brackets with a hacksaw and a drill. Obviously a solo tail is easiest, but I've seen people do some nice ones with a rear seat/cowl, even if it can't support a passenger's weight.

I've never seen one but I have a suspicion that an 04-05 gsxr 600/750 tail would look good on the GS, and I would LOVE to find a Cagiva Mito tail for my GS, but they're hard to come by. If you see one let me know.

Other than that just browse around ebay and see what tails you can find. I bet an 03-04 zx6r tail would look slick if done right, but I think you'd have to be able to weld to make sure it was mounted at the right angle. Just keep in mind that 600/1000cc bikes are bulkier than the GS, so the tails may be a little out of proportion. Make sure you stick to the smaller tails(ie. not a zx7r or srad tail)

I'm guessing that means it can still accommodate a passenger, i.e. not a solo seat.

Hey man sorry about the question I posted. I didn't make much sence cuz Ive been drinking  and working on a way to make my gs a little different. But that's exactly the info I need. I guess I'll start looking for a r6 rear fairing with a pass seat. And that works out perfect cuz I'm a welder!! Now I'm wondering if it's a pain in the butt to do this project. I was a mechanic before so I do have some knowledge of how these thing work. But thanx again man.

I don't think mine was much work. Half of the work was trying to figure out how to mount the tail just right as it obviously isn't meant to go on the GS subframe, but if you cant weld I'd consider it a fairly easy weekend project. Keep in mind you'll probably need a new tail light and a front seat as well. If you're lifting up the bottom of the subframe a little you could put an R6 undertail on it, otherwise you need to stick with the GS undertail otherwise your tire will hit it when you go over a bump. There's not a lot of clearance under there.

Alright man thanx for the Info. I also wana put a fatter tire on the rear. But I needa find a katana rim first...my first bike was a 2000 srad. I liked it but sooner or later the heli's would catch up to me. Then I bought a 90 gs500e. I love the bike except
for the rear. It looks too skinny. So I wana make a streetfighter out of it. By any chance would u have a pic of the rear? I just wana see what it looks like before I start chopping it up. Thanx again.

Haha! Same thing I'm doing bro. Check put my post w/ pics. Maybe we can get ideas off eachother.

Buddy that looks awsome!!! Wow man really sweat! It's just that wireing kills me. I hate seeing loose wires. But looks wicked man. I'll forsure be asking u for some help lol. See i got an 90 gs500e with only the rear fairing. I'll soon be jeting it and instalimg a k&n filter. Yoshi pipe is already on. Then I have to find a bigger rim for the rear. And the 2pcs 4"streetfighter headlight is coming soon. Now I saw what the gixxer fairing looks like(amazing) but what does the r1 or r6 two seater look like? Hmmmm anyone?

tt_four

I know if you browse you'll find some build threads with 2 seater R6 tails, but I'm feeling too lazy at the moment to search for them, so I figured I'd just attach a couple of the R1 tail pictures I already have uploaded. These first couple are when I still had the original '91 tank on....

This is a picture from above that shows you how much wider normal tails are than the tank. Awkward when you're just looking at the bike, but no one will notice when you're actually sitting on it.

This one shows you the problem with most tail swaps. The bottom half of the GS subframe is much lower than most bikes, so it sticks out past the bottom. If you can weld it's an easy fix.

I've since swapped to the newer style tank. It's a bit wider and the R1 tail fits with it MUCH better. If you really want a wider tail but don't like how skinny the tank is in comparison you can try looking for one of the newer tanks.

Dude that's exactly what I wana do with my gs. With a second seat ofcourse. Would u know of any fourms that show how a rear fairing with a second Seat is installed? I've been searching for hrs and can't find squat! :dunno_white: but I really like ur conversion man.

Well I'm about to go to bed now, but tomorrow I'll look around and see what I can find on here. I distinctly remember the details of someone putting on an R6 tail with a passenger seat, but it'll take a little searching to see if I can find it.

Another seat to check out, which won't give you too much information about the GS, but will be great if you're looking to redo a tail and can weld is www.customfighters.com 90% of the bikes on there have tail swaps, and I can drool over some of those builds for hours at a time. If you like that hackjob I did you'll love the stuff over there. At some point I'd really like to cut my tail where the seat/cowl would go, and get either to replace it and come up with a way to attach them with what I have in there. I'd really love to make a little storage space under the tail that I could get access too, especially considering the inside of that tail is huge and completely empty, I could store all kinds of things in there. I'd never have it strong enough for a passenger though.

gixxergrand

Hey man I really thank you for ur time on helping me out. But I'll give the site a look at. But ur idea is exactly what I had in mind lol. Only thing I'd do I'd put 2 high mount exhausts. Since ur solo why not? Thanx again on tryin to find that r6 fourm for me.

jeremy_nash

I have a sv650 tail section on mine.  I think it looks good, and will post better pics soon, in the mean-time here is the best ones I have
as you will see, I have a fully functional rear seat still

Okay I think it's going to be between the r6 or the sv650. Now that I've seen the sv I think that's my fav! Good job bud. would u mind telling
me what year, how much of a pain in the ass of a job it was and what I need in order to do this? Nice fat tire too

tt_four

I'm sure he'll give you a detailed answer but I think he bought a whole SV back end and welded the subframes together.

As far as mine, I've definitely thought about making it a high mount exhaust. I think it would tuck in there perfectly, especially since the can is so small. Someday when I can weld I'll probably take a shot at it.

tt_four

Hey, I spent a while searching with all the key words I could think of, and don't see that build thread anywhere with the R6 tail, sorry. I know it's in there though, so keep searching, you'll find it eventually.
