I let my cousin practice his turning and figure 8 for his test and he dropped it   It was a gentle drop, he caught it but couldn't pull it back up so he gingerly put it down.  After I picked it up there was a 4" diameter spot of oil, maybe about where the left side crankcase cover would land.  I checked the bike several times but couldn't see any damage or leak.  It runs fine and I checked and re-check the oil level.  Any ideas how/if some oil could have ended up on the street with no signs of damage or a leak?  The drop wasn't even a drop more like he put it down.  I checked everywhere on the bike and can't figure it out.  It may not have been my oil but it still worries me.

Drop it again but over a clean spot to double check.  just kidding.

Hmmm, are you sure it's oil?  I've had a couple unfortunate drops.   Sure, let the girlfriend take a seat on your bike...  Anyway, is there a possibility that it was gasoline and not oil?

The carbs will leak gasoline when the bike tips over.  If it was actually motor oil I doubt it was from your bike.

I'm 100% sure it was oil,  I rubbed my fingers in it to be sure.  It may not be mine but it looked so fresh and right under my bike.  Wait now that I think about it it was cold...hmmmm...if it was from me it would have been warm right.  Ok I think I feel better.

I accidentally dropped my bike the other day -- also in a gentle way.  It didn't spill any oil, but, when I went to restart it, the oil pressure light stayed on for about half a minute, i.e., the pump lost its prime and took a while to regain it.  At least there is no plastic to break on the E model.

Is your oil filler cap screwed on tight? 

I just did this tonight taking my GS out for the first time javascript:void(0); , gas did leak out of the carbs.  Luckily I took the fairings off before setting out, only damage was to the case, bar-end, brake handle and the muffler.  I think I am more pissed at myself than anything else but oh well, things like this will happen. 

That liquid is just your gasoline, thats why there's that plastic tube that comes off from the right side of your bike, right behind the bottom of the crankcase. lol I dropped my bike enough times to figure that one out.

How long was the bike on its side? Most likely all the oil drained away from the oil pump, causing the sensor to light up.

Could it have been oil coming out of a breather hose?

+1. It's pretty common for the airbox to get some oil after a tip-over. Might be smart to have a look.

Under the bike there are some hoses. The one with the Cap on the end comes from the air box. All kinds of crud gets in it. Sometimes, if this cap come off or loose, the crud comes out. Check those lines too.
