Well i am about to give up and take my bike to a mechanic but I thought i would gove it one more try

Here is what I have done

Added inline fuel filter
put in progressicve springs (pablo's easy way)
Changed out the clutch housing and plates
Changed the oil and filter
cleaned the carbs (by taking them totally apart)
moved the rear taillights (attached to frame)
changed spark plugs
Added stabil to the fuel

After adding the fuel filter (my first mod) it didn't run exactly
I lost some power on acceleration and it was running really rough
soI took everything apart again and cleaned the carbs they weren't bad but he piolot jet on the left carb was plugged but everything else seemed fine

I put the carbs back in and now the bike won't start at all :x  :x  :x
The float bowls fill and the filter shows that gass is going flowing through
whe I try and start all that happens is half a pop in the combustion chamber but only on the first time a his the start button after that their is just a click click click click coming fromt he back right side I can't tell if the plugs are sparking or not I don't know how to make them fire outside of the combustion chanber

I removed the cars again and very carefully and slowly put them back in the bike checking all the hoses and cables and they all seem to be on correctly and doing what they are supposed to I also checked the  battery with a multi meter and it is reading a little over 12v so it is fine
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Ok you say that you just changed the fuel filter and it started running bad, the cleaned the carbs and it won't start at all.

At what point to did you much about with the clutch and all the other things you list at first?  :dunno:

Also if the engine isn't turning over and that is what the "click click click" is, then you have an electrical/battery problem first.

1) inline fuel filter
(ran a little rough seemed to lose some acceleration)
2)winterized/ changed fork springs
(stabil, oil changed, put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder)
3) changed  out clutch plates
(after which the bike did start again but ran really wierd it sounded rough and when I would crank the throttle it would die but if I turned the throttle slowly the bike woud rpm's would jump really high but after a pause)
4) cleaned and reinstalled the carbs
(now just click click click)
5) changed spark plugs
(click click click)

click click means that your starter is finished or the battery isn't storng enough to spin the crank

Puunjob

would that just be a coincadince (spelling?) or could I of not hooked something up right when I put the carb back on or the spark plugs?

also is there a way to see if my plugs are sparking?

I've done it with a  snow blower I flooded but I can't figure out how to do it with my bike also how could I check to see if my stater is toast

Not "stator," but "starter."  The "click click" is an indication that the starter relay contacts are, as you say, "toast."

The stator could be toast, too, but that's a different issue.  For now, you may need to either repair or replace the starter relay (connected to battery's positive terminal cable) and re-evaluate the carburetion.

if your starter can't turn the engine over then the carbs, spark plugs and all the other things don't matter....first figure out why it doesn't crank....battery or starter....try puting jumper cables on the battery or a car and hook it up to you GS battery (note: car must not be running) and then try to crank the engine...if nothing happens then it's your starter...

you can check for spark like this....take out the spark plug and leave the cable attached to the spark plug....then hold the spark plug with some tool and put the spark plug on the engine (just for the contact) and then crank the enigine...if you see a spark then everything is good

Starters are pretty tough. I have yet to see one the culprit in cases like this.

I bet you killed your battery with trying to start it.  If you have a trickle charger use it.  If not you can try to bump start it (sucks) or you can use a car battery and some jumper cables. Just DO NOT run the car while it is hooked to the GS.

You may have permanently cooked the battery. When they go bad, sometimes they will show 12v but won't have enough amps to turn the starter.

Make sure the bike is charged.  I got the clicking sound before on another bike I own after I had drained the battery after washing the bike.  Connect a battery tender and see what happens.

question, (after you sort out click-click-click prob.), when you cleaned carbs, did you take them apart and put the carbs, minus o rings and plastic parts into a container of carb cleaner, (sold at auto parts places), if not, try that, but get your starter/battery issue solved first.

I didn't dip the parts I pulled eac part out and cleaned it with spray carb cleaner cleaner taking care to spray and blow out the jets (I could see light through them)I also sprayed enough cleaner into the float bowl that I could watch it drain through all the holes in the carb assembly.

OK dude.... The battery is down. Maty be recharged... if its not been left down too long, als0 12V+ at the battery indicates... a low battery. Good charged ones make 13.5+. The click click click sound is the starter relay clicking... doesn't mean its bad, or the starter is bad... the battery is just dead. Charge it and see what it does. I sometimes pull the plugs out and turn it over wiht the starter... just to make sure its not hydrolocked... but people tell me that's not neccesary.

If gas enters the cylinder in large quantities as a liquid... not atomised with air and puddles up it will prevent the piston from pushing up to TDC if the valves are closed... that usually results in bending a rod or blowing a hole in a piston with the rod. The GS usually floods over to the airbox before it will flow into the cylinder.

How can you check to see if you have gass in the cylynder and how would you get it out before I damage the bike

I usually take out the spark plugs and turn the motor over with the starter. Will spit gas if its got gas. Then I add a little motor oil and turn it over a few times. Make sure you add very little oil. Less than ~1 tea spoon max. Cos oil also will create hydrolock... but that little will help lube. Or dont add oil if the bike has not sat a while.
