ok.. So I've finally decided to stop being lazy and start posting some pics of my baby and what I've been up to with all the parts I've been acquiring from the lovely people on this site.

So here she is pre tear down (minus a seat)

And as she sat until a couple days sgo

More pics to come in the next few days as I find the time to stop being lazy and pull them off my camera.  14t sprocket went on yesterday. Carbs and tank are re installed with Budda jets, exhaust gets welded next week. New taillight on and working.

What taillight did you put on the bike?  Was it just one of the led with integrated turn signals or was it from a completely different bike.  I have one of the led with integrated turn signals that came on the bike when i bought it but i have been trying to find something to change it to as i am not really a fan of it since it seems very dim.

IS that going to be the final position of the exhaust or are you just showing us what it looks like?

Cause your foot's going to get pretty toasty.

Ok.. Got a few more pics uploaded today..

So here's the new LED tail..

Running..

And braking..

I forget who it was here on the boards that had the idea, but i thought it was pure genius and since I work in a metal shop I went this route instead of the BFH method for the  rear torque arm.  Takes longer to grind the friggin welds down than it does to do them...

This is after the cuts, bent to the new shape.  The paper is the template of the original shape so I knew where to bend and how much

After welding..

And here it is finished and installed on the bike...

And lastly a pic of the Kat shock I threw on the rear end (courtesy of joshr08)..

More to come as I get it done... All I really have left is to weld the can, buy a rear tire and have my rear SV rim powder coated to match the front one.. gonna try tbe riding by March 1st if my budget allows.

Man that torque bar idea is great!!!  I wish I would have thought of that, lol.  It works better than hammering it doesn't it.  :whisper:

No, it doesn't. Hammering takes all of 20 minutes,10 if you have a torch....

hammering would have definitely been faster, but i'm not to keen on beating things unless i'm trying to break them. plus it gave me a chance to play with the welder at work a little more than usual.  as it is, the cutting and welding took me about an hour. the grinding took me another 3-4..

if you're going to do it this way, make sure you make a template of the original shape, plan your bends so you cut the correct side of the tubing and start shaping.  i found that if i made a few bends then tacked them i could make the next few without over/under bending the previous bends. after it was all shaped and tacked i filled the cuts with weld, ground it all down, primed it and hit it with black epoxy coat.

Sure hammering is easier, but I wanted it to be better than beating it with a hammer.  It is easy to do when you have a welder.

Plus I didn't want to change the shape of the metal either.  I like the boxed shape.

Not dissing Craftsman but if you have the means nothing beats Snap On combo wrenches and Matco fine tooth ratchets   :thumb:

I'm all about craftsman tools when it's something I know i'm going to abuse. I've bent many ratchet by sticking a pipe over the handle and jumping on them, or the old vice grip on the screwdriver handle trick. If it's not a free replacement I tend to be slightly more gentle. And they were free for me too. Gotta love those xmas presents!

Every tool I own is Craftsman and every one I have broken I replaced for free.  Others are better quality but I can drive 700 feet to Sears and replace it in a minute.  I love Craftsman.

yea snap on is good stuff too, but way overpriced. but ill be getting a bunch of snap-on stuff anyway next year for college cause thats just the set that my school uses. and i think its like a 60% savings over if you were to just buy some on your own.

TheDrunknmonky

ok.. so i found #4 needle spacer washers that fit and were only $2.34 for a 6 pack at lowes. i have 2 questions....

1) how many do i need for each needle? 1 or 2?

2) there are 8 of these screws and i have managed to get 6 of them out.. i have also managed to round out the heads of the other 2.. now i have a method for getting them out, however i would like to replace them with alan head machine screws like i did with the crappy screws that came off when i did my jets. was hoping someone would know the size screws i need you purchase

it's this batch of screws that needs to go...

She's all put back together and running like a champ. Still have some minor body work to do to get the tail light so tuck into the tail section and I have a few wire to hide from the turn signals, but I can say I'm happy with the way she looks and runs.
