91 gs500E

goal is a budget rat/fighter style bike.
I had kinda slowed on interest and progress as I have been living in my basement (finishing it out) and not spending much time in the garage.

But with summer coming soon I need to get going on it.
progress so far:

both cyclinders now running
carbs cleaned and rejetted
lunchbox
Akropvich Titanium R6 muffler cut down a little to get rid of its damage
custom bent midpipe to give it a good angle
subframe cut down and minimized with junkyard solo tail and tail light. mini signals.
electricals all shortened by about a foot for all the relocation of electronics
radio shack electrical box to contain wires in front of the battery.
Drag bars
bar end mirrors
front forks redone with springs and race tech emulators
rear kat shock
front caliper and master cylinder with SS line from an 08 GS
new clutch lever in black to match front brake lever.
Paint is already determined but secret til finished......pics will be posted I promise.
I added tabs to the rear of the swingarm then drilled/tapped for spools.

my question is what next?
I have about 3-500 left to spend and was looking for ideas.
I will be leaving stock wheels and tire sizes so nothing there.
Am thinking some 900rr rearsets maybe to get rid of the aweful stock ones.
petcock upgrade?
new tires and chain sprockets are allready accounted for.

what else gents???
I think I might almost be done other than the finishing details and paint.

werase643

500 in gas
a new helmet and gloves

ride it and enjoy it
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

here is my thread when I was working on it like a madman.
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=49707.0
Unfortunately my buddy won the bet we had about it being done by the end of the month.
Guess he knows how my wifes priorities seem to override mine.

The exhaust angle is diff=better. I had to redo the angle of the tail section and subframe.
It looked good when on the stand but when I took it off the stand it was too flat.( product of making solo decisions at 1am)
It now has a pan under the tail where the electronics mount and will be a huge storage area under the seat.

I may try and take a break from my basement and work on the bike a little over the next few days.
Some of yous guys are  doing way more work and getting done faster

Oh and the R6 rearsets just wouldnt work unfortunately but I am looking at maybe trying a set of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CNC-Rearsets-Suzuki-GSF-Bandit-600-1200-BLACK-NEW-FR14_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5638dcf384QQitemZ370321191812QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Has anybody purchased or heard of anything from this company or their products?
I fgure for the price I can make something work and they look pretty sweet to me :D

Any suggestions on side cover panels?
I was thinking about trying som brackets with some homemade fiberglass covers, figure by the tenth try they might look ok.
dont really have any glass experience.

Do tell!!
I like carbon.

what exactly are they?

I am looking for basically the area just arounf the battery.

O.C.D.

They are standard Monster side covers in Carbon Fiber.  They fill in the underside of the frame.  Look at my build thread where they are on the wall.

Here are some updated pics:

lunchbox and electrical box

undertail pan and computer mount

left side battery area

tail shots:

the view that will undoubtly be seen by a few folks  :icon_mrgreen:
( I know it is crooked but that is because it isnt bolted tight just kinda sitting on their for pics

spools (not totally detailed yet)

side pics- the tank and front fender will match the tail as well as whatever I come up with for cover panels over the battery area
wheels will remain white
planning on doing black on  frame parts
you can see the comparo of silver vs black.

and if anybody is bored and wants to photoshop my tank and fender camo go ahead

left side with silver frame, Swingarm and fork lowers

right side with black frame swingarm and fork lowers
with exhaust at highest potential angle

and exhaust at lowest angle, not much diff but noticable to me

so this is where she is, there is a lot of detail work to be done yet and of course prep and paint.

O.C.D.

I say lower the angle of the can like in the last pics.  That way it runs parallel to the frame and flows better.

Camo - hard to pull off on some things.  But,................the tail makes me think it can be done on the whole bike.  GO for it!!!

I like the undertray out of Home Depot metal, lol.  I have some sitting in the garage as well.

yeah I was thinking the same with the lower exhaust

and as far as the camo??? well it is just rattle can so I figure I can change relatively easy in the future if I decide to.
My thought uis that since the total project will be under about $900 (including purchase) an expensive paint job really isnt worth it.
after all it isnt a $15k Ducati  :)

mister

Careful with the camo... no-one will see you. And if you wear camo Draggin Jeans (see below) it'll look like a half body floating down the road.  :icon_mrgreen:
