I'm relatively new on this site and spend most of my online time over at Customfighters.com mainly because I have a foul mouth and all that.  I was recently given an '07 GS500F and while rebuilding it, promptly wrapped it up with a tree at 100+ mph on a test ride (damn Michigan winters!!!).  So now I have a pile of parts.  I was gonna fighter it up anyway and had a line on a Kat front end, but I told the seller I wasn't sure if I'd be needing it because I wasn't sure how bad the bike was.  A couple of my buddies recovered the scraps while I was in the hospital and assured me it was easily fixable.  So I picked up a GSXR FE cheap although I'm not sure exactly what year it is.  The previous owner had it mounted on his '03 but thought it was off a '96-'99.  Its almost a direct bolt on but it looks like I'll need a spacer!  Now a quick Google search leads me to either Pablo's page or here and both refer to Bob Brousard.  A quick search here just turns up a ton of hits on his name, but no easy way to contact him.  O.C.D. and PsyberOptix's bikes are pretty much nuts on with the FE I'm doing but directions are kinda light on there builds plus they both used newer FE's.  So anyone with info, or a parts list, or parts for sale, or can do the work... help a rider out please!  *That doesn't mean send me free parts or do free work btw*  I'm more than willing to farm out the triple conversion if someone can send back a bolt on kit, or I can make my own parts short of full on machining as I have nothing that fancy.  Also, if I'm gonna pay someone to do something, it'd have to be someone reputable on here like Buhhda* or Bob for example.  Thanks again in advance.

O.C.D.

I thought I was pretty straight forward on my build about the FE.  Psyber was too I thought?  Ask and we shall tell.  I have Bob's email still BTW.

You were definitely straight forward about it, lol.  I keep going back into your build and all I can find is a set of pictures right after the gas tank comparison with the heading, "Finally a GSXR FE" or something like that.  The pictures before had no FE, and then its there on your bike.  If you went into more detail like a step by step like with everything else I keep missing it.  I can't find Psyber's build thread.  When I try to look it up I just get a ton of references to his build, and one big thread which is kinda like the history of his bike or something without a lot of detail.  Just one day a FE appeared again, lol.  If I'm missing something, please link it so I can shut up and bolt something on!

Ok so I did even more searching and found P.O.'s FE swap.  Now I just need to find Bob Brousard and see if he wants to do the stem swap and spacer build, and then figure out the brake/wheel conundrum that that thread left me with.  Something about having to buy the right wheel to get the right rotors to fit and options and lots of words... :dunno_black:  I was gonna just buy a 96-03 wheel and rotors but now I gotta figure out wth I have to get the right parts!

I'll shoot ya an email tomorrow morning with Bob's info.  I also have an option for you.   :woohoo:

I guess you are right about the FE. I didn't show much about that.  What you are not seeing is mounting it all.  If you had the parts ready, you can do that part in about 2 minutes.  You change the lower triples, add the upper triples, add the spacer and it is done.  I can take more pics when I take it apart again.

Hey don't take it apart on my account man!  Lol, I have a really good idea what I have to do, but the FE is one of those parts you just don't wanna guess on, ya know?  I threw a USD on my DR350 and it ripped off on a 75' table top when I was about 30' in the air.  Nothing like spending the holidays paralyzed to teach not to guess/ f*** around with things like that!

Hmm.... I'm at work so all I'm getting are the little boxes with red X's. I read through about 2 pages of Psybers build but it's too hard to tell what's going on without the pictures, so I'm just gonna ask questions that I would've otherwise researched.

O.C.D., what all did it take to get that front end on your bike? sounds like you just send the GSXR triples along with a GS stem and Bob pressed the stem in for you? How much does he charge for that? Is this something you need special tools for I'm assuming? It's not your standard vice and hammer job like I'm good at? I'd love to put a new front end on my bike, and I love projects, but I'm unforunately in that group of people who hate to spend a ton of money spicing up a bike that's worth less than the parts you're putting on it. I'd be curious as to what your final cost on the front end swap was on the front end(minus paint). I got a new tank and put that R1 tail on my bike, so a new USD front end would definitely take what used to look like an average 1992 stlyled bike to something decently modern, not to mention the better brakes.

Hmm... I'll research it all more when I get home and can acctually see pictures and browse ebay for some front ends. Does any year 750-1000 front end work for the swap, or should I be searching for certain years?

and by the way, Customfighters is awesome!  :thumb: I usually refer anyone there who starts asking serious questions here. I had planned on picking up a crashed gsxr750 and doing a build on there, but then I decided I wanted a buell xb, and well, I'd just want it to look stock because bikes don't get any better looking than that!

O.C.D.

Yeah, I lurk around there more than here cause the mass number of different builds.  Some of those entries are insane.  And there have been a few GS500's on there which is cool cause our bikes are like mopeds to what they all build.

Yeah, they've managed to turn "fixing up a crashed bike" into just picking up a starting point for cheap and making a work of art. I wish i had some of the skills some of those guys do. I'll get better, but I'm still way behind most of them. Finding an old gsxr750 slingshot for a long term project is always a goal of mine. I want to wait until I have something nicer to ride first before I get into that though, and am better at welding/machining/making stuff, so I don't have to spend much money on it at all.

MXFun86

Yeah I don't hang out over here unless I need GS specific info either.  I'm more interested in customs, than how fuel efficient a bike is.

tt_four

Haha, people here are nicer than most forums I've been on, so I don't mind just hanging around for the conversation, but the guys at customfighters are extremely positive guys, so that's cool too. Ever since I went on my buell kick I haven't been around CF as much though, I've actually been spending some time on a buell XB forum just to be sure that's what I want to get. They seem pretty nice but it all usually turns into the same 'we love torque/who cares about top speed/this bike is awesome in the corners/Harley sucks', all of which I'm cool with, but it wouldn't hurt to broaden the conversation.

MXFun86

The only thing I don't like about this site is the occasional guy that just lurks around and doesn't say anything until someone else offers advice, then they jump in to say how its all wrong but never explain why or how... that and I can't swear on here...

I'm just glad youre back from the hospital mx! We were all worried about you.

Haha, yeah I hate having to always stop and think about whether or not a word is going to show up, or be replaced with "Buddha loves you". On occasion someone there will pop up to be a jerk, but they usually get beat back down by people telling them to be nice.

aaronjosephward

you got up to 100mph on a gs? glad you're alright...

tt_four

Haha, the only time I remember seeing our GS go over 100mph is when Heather had it up to about 110-115, but the front end started to wobble because she was probably holding onto the stock bars with a death grip. We've since switched to clipons so I'm sure it's much more stable at higher speeds, which I won't really be at anyway.

MXFun86

Lol, I was playing with sprockets!  Easy to go fast with the right mix... also easy to crash when you use sprockets off other bikes for testing...

Anyways, I spend so much time at the hospital I think I may have helped pay for the new 12 story wing.  Which they in turn payed me to help wire.  Its deff a love/hate thing.  I loved the paychecks, and hate the hospital.  And the doctors hate me and the nurses hate me and the funny smelling cleaning lady hates me... well I think its a mostly hate relationship.  Got some cool pics though.  I didn't know anyone knew I was in the hospital.  That made it around fast, lol.

O.C.D.

Internet forums are like that fat girl you did in college, everyone knows about it and you don't want to admit it.
