Sure, JB Weld or Weld it.  Gonna be a long task though.  Drain tank, remove petcocks, remove tank, drain tank more, make sure the tank is drained, drain the tank, make sure there is no gas, etc.....  Then JB it on the inside and outside.  Or, just zap it with a welder and refinish.

Whats JB Weld? Strike that, found it!

After many phone calls I finally found someone who can solder/weld the tank, apparently most radiator/air cond repair guys do this, many dont do bikes and are willing to 'have a go' sidestep them and go with someone who has done tanks before, I dont know what the 'going' rate is but this is costing me $50.00aus.
Its a lot cheaper than a new/second hand tank but they cant give a life for the repair, they suggested that I use a tank conditioner/sealer to stop any further leaks.

Another tip was to not always use the sidestand as that allows the water in the tank to settle continuosely in the same spot :dunno_white:

Any way I'll post again when it fails to give some kind to life span to it.
Cheers for the replies!

"My motorcycle had a gas tank leak. The dealer said it couldn't be fixed, and I'd have to get a new tank. A hardware store told me about J-B WELD -- and it did the trick! For a $4 investment, I saved $325. J-B WELD is not a gimmick product -- it is one that works!"

I can attest, the stuff is pretty damn amazing.

I flushed out my tanks and used muratic acid to clean out the rust out of the tank. Then I flushed it out several times. Then i purchased silver solder , filled the tank full of water and used a propain tourch and commenced with soldering all of the holes. IOt worked and I didn't blow up! Good luck and do it at your own risk. -- jim :)

DO NOT USE A TANK LINING PRODUCT!!!  I went to fix a tank once and flushed it for a couple hours.  Did ALL the safety thing you do for a repair like that.  I'd done it before with no problems.  So I hit it with the ARC and all I remember is this *whhuuummmppp!* noise and then a ringing noise and flash spots in my vision.  Turns out someone had used a liquid tank liner before, which didn't fix the tank.  It had mixed with some old gas and made a jelly like napalm under the hard liner.  As soon as I hit it, it blew up in my face!  That shaZam! is dangerous, doesn't work, and limits you forever on what you can do for repairs!  Welding or soldering are the best ways to fix your tank BUT they damage the paint more than other options.  Any home mechanic worth his greasy finger nails has used JB Weld.  The stuff is worth its weight in at least lead!  Costs more too, lol.  That will definitely fix your problem right up as long as you do it right.  Don't mix it on your bike, use a piece of trash to mix it on then spread it.  Another note on JB Weld for DIY riders; I use it as a body filler for small dents and dings.  It's like a harder, more permanent Bondo.  It can be finished up to show quality too!

Dont JB weld it either.
If the metal around it is thick enough and not eaten with rust (which is a huge if) then it can be welded by a skilled welder. I have done it many times before and 1-2 times even got away wihtout painting it cos it was inside (you're screwed there though).
Really, Dont try $4 JB weld to save 325 and have it blow 100 miles from home on a dark rainy cold night ... weld it, spend 20-40 bucks and save 325 bucks and not have it blow ... ever ... till of course the rust eats another location ...
To stop that, line it with POR15, but only after welding.

I'd prolly volunteer to do both jobs for ~125 and return shipping.

Old man: Nevermind - You're in Australia - OK weld and line and it will last, if lined right, 1000 precautions and techniques there and look on this site for that.
MXFUN86: You were in a crash recently - How are you ?
