I have to give major props for the members of this board having some respect for each other when bidding on Ebay. I posted on another board about something I was bidding on and the response was pretty much...."f**k you, if I want it I'll outbid you!" Damn, there is no respect on that board for fellow members. I would like to thank you guys for showing each other a little respect.  :thumb:
People take these things too seriously!

Aw, shucks...

I think one reason we don't participate in bidding wars, is that there aren't that many sexy goodies for the GS available on eBay.   Whatever it is, I think it's kinda cool.  I'm not particularly thrilled with someone calling "dibs" on something before I've even had the chance to see it, but that contingency hasn't come up yet for me.  I've bid on some items and lost, including a snipe or two, but the outbidders' names didn't match the member's posted screen names on the topic in the for sale section.  Even then, I didn't call it out to reserve it, so if I'm outbid, it ain't such a big deal...

I think that this board goes about eBay all wrong.  Calling dibs on an auction is crazy.  Just because you happened to find an item first (or at least post about it first) doesn't give you rights to be the only one from this board to bid on it.  In fact, by calling dibs you may have stepped on someone's toes who was hoping the item would quietly slip by so they could make a great, cheap buy.  I belong to a car forum that strongly discourages posting about eBay (to the point of deleting posts) unless the person posting is the seller trying to draw attention to their item.  I think that we should consider such a policy here.  Until them I will continue to bid on (and win) items dibs or not.

I agree.  I couldn't care less if you called "dibs" on something.  If I'm willing to pay more, why shouldn't I get the item?  Isn't that the whole point of an auction?  If I where selling an item and someone who was only willing to pay, say, 5 dollars for it called dibs and everyone else who was interested, and who may have been willing to pay more, backed off out of "respect" I'd be pretty mad.

I feel obligated to post a reply since I brought the idea of an ebay bidders list to this board (from another board I saw it on).

The GOAL isn't to simply pay the least for the item. That would be impossible since bidders comprise others outside this forum (really!). Thei GOAL was to have a forum that prevented you from unnecessarily raising the price I would pay on an item. "Dibs" isn't the right term but one that has stuck. The point is for someone to post a NEED they may have ("I really need those forks, mine are trashed" sort of thing). If you need it LESS they are asking you not bid. Another example: say a yoshimura exhaust comes up. Thats a pretty desirable item and one that many would WANT but there might be a racer that NEEDS to replace his trashed exhaust on his race bike. You might think their need is greater than your desire to upgrade. Doesn't mean you can't bid, just that you should state your intention to bid. THey might decide that it isnt worth it to bid, or yo might...

If you needed something in order to get your bike RUNNING you'd be pretty pissed that someone here outbid you just to have something they didn't NEED. Its a network, a brotherhood of sorts. man, we're jsut trying to look out for each other.  I've seen bids where two or more members HERE bid against each other, winner ended up paying more because of it.

Its just based on the honor system. IF you have any then you'd state you're intentions to bid anyway when someone calls "dibs".

the above make sense.  but I think the impression that I, and aparantly some others got, was that we weren't supposed to bid on an item we may want if someone here posted it first.  If it's simply saying, "don't drive my price up on an item you don't really want" thats one thing.  Claiming exclusive bidding rights is another.  Thanks for the clarifacation Pablo.

No problem.

I've added the description to the ebay list in the hopes that it remaim clear why its there.

In all fairness to the other board, most people said exactly what Pablo said. This is the thread:

Yes Pablo is right, that ebay list has been rolling along for so long people have forgotten its original intent. Also if the item goes out of your price limit... please call in un dibbing it. Usually once a lister buys somehitng off ebay... and later they sell it, or sell parts off it or anything it usually goes in the for sale area, not back to ebay. AKA what goes around, comes around. And by now you all are probably aware.... anything good for the GS, needs to be made by you, or someone who knows the GS. Ebay typically works for body parts and pipes maybe. Nothing else comes on there that is worth fighting over.
Cool.
