So, I am broke after paying all my bills this week and couldn't afford to do the things I wanted to do to the GS.. but I Still worked on it a little.  I took the black caps off the carbs just to see what was under there.. What is the "needle" that the spring "holds down" inside the black rubber/plastic contraption?  Am I correct in assuming one is not supposed to be bent? Cuz the other one was straight.  My local bike shop is not open on Monday so I couldn't go ask them/buy a new one.  I think this thing was "sticking" and causing my "Fuel starvation" issue.  I straightened it as best I could and put it all back together.. It seems like the bike runs way better now.. more power all the way through.. more responsive.. and I couldn't get it to "starve."  We'll see how she does in the morning on the ride to work.  Vents and Cocks seemed to be working just fine.. fuel screen did not looked clogged or anything.  Also, Is the "right angle vent" on the bottom of the gas tank supposed to be hooked up to anything?  Thanks for your time.

I just fixed broken links on the pictures, so you should be able to tell what is what.  From your description, you are talking about the needles.

Get a manual or read the Wiki and use the search feature.  You'll be able to do a lot more.

The right angle fixture under the tank is an overflow vent.  Originally a hose went from there through the frame to near the ground.

Gah trumpetguy you beat me to the pics!

Yeah if it's your needle (#20 I think) it shouldn't be bent...

Ok i have another thread going about carb rebuild.  I have a really small o ring that I cant figure out where it goes.  On the diagram you linked to is #9 refering to an o ring or the washers?  None of the other diagrams show that part.
throw the leg over, fire it up, hold on.  drive it like you stole it.

I'm pretty sure #9 is a plastic "o-ring" (9: JET NEEDLE RING) And when you are re-jetting you put washer shims on TOP of that right? Mine has one washer on it already.

If you're talking 89-00, try #14.  It's an o-ring.  It's pretty common to miss on disassembly.

My 90 GS500E has spread itself across the nation.

I think #14 is his "medium" o-ring.  What about #34?

I have #14. this o ring is smaller than #14.  I was thinking #34 put thats under the pilot screw, is that something that needs to be taken out?

I'm not sure. Post the carb diagram link to your thread and ask in there.. :dunno_white: I've never rebuilt carbs before.  Back on topic.. "bent thingy" seems to have been the problem.  Ran like a champ today.. through the wind, hail, rain and general nastiness we're having here.
