Alright so i found out my bike is only putting out about 10.9 volts. and also found out there is a grounded wire somewhere that shouldnt be because when i set my volt meter to test if there is a current, like you put it to the setting where it beeps when current is passing, and touched the probes to the positive and negitive wires that hook to the battery i got the beep.  also i did this with the battery out of the bike so its not going throught the battery.  I wanna know is there like some easy steps to take to try and find where the problem is? or do i just have to simply check every single wire in the harness and see if it connects to the ground somewere?

When you checked, was the key off?  The headlight resistance might be low enough to make the meter go "beep"

I'm not following you all the way. So you're having electrical gremlins, and developed an ground issue. you changed your meter to check for continuity, where it would beep on a completed circuit, and it beeped with the battery out of the bike, showing you have a ground somewhere?

gregvhen

@Paulcet- yea the key was off

and @ Burny - yea, with the battery out and the meter set to beep on a completed circuit, it beeped when i put the probes on the positive and negitive wires that would normally be bolted to the battery.

I told my teacher today that it would beep and he said that it should cause its a complete circuit, and i said well doesnt that mean that the battery is draining then and he said no. but i think he mis-interpreted what i was trying to say. some im going to bring the bike into class this week. but i figure id ask on here too cause some of you guys seem to know more about these bikes then the suzuki people who designed em.  Anyway back to another question which might be a result of the first supposed problem. when i have my bike running and i connect the volt meter im ony getting aroun 10.7 ~10.9 volts to the battery. so does anyone know what i should check first to see why my stator or possibly rec. isnt charging the batt. right?

Paulcet

At first, the low voltage while running (5000 rpm) would indicate bad regulator or stator.  But a short would do it too.  I would "divide and conquer" on the wiring.   Maybe you can run it for a while and feel for warm wires...

I would look over the wiring harness, in sections, and see if anything is frayed enough to make contact with your frame.

Well I just had it the frame completely stripped and checked the harness before putting it back on, and yes i put it on right, the problem was there before I stripped everything down.  Im just thinking maybe theres some wires that got pluged together that shouldnt be, but maybe they look alike so someone, including myself, thought it was right.  I just need a good way to check it while trying to avoid hooking the probes up to each indivual wire and the ground.
