I took off the Kat shock and yanked out the .90 sonics. It was way too bumpy. Next I will suck out the 15 wt and put in 10wt.

I have it set up in upright riding position. Its a soft slow bike. Making it bumpy was not good. That made it a bumpy slow bike.

I will post the springs and shock for sale soon. After I get the 10 wt back in and am happy with it again.

Looking for next bike. Will keep the GS. Thinking V-Strom, or maybe ninja 650. VFRs are cheaper. Almost bought mint Bandit 400 but I like low end torque.

Yeah I just put in a Kat shock, but I'm not sure it's good so I'm not making judgments yet...

Really you didn't like the stiffer springs in front though?  My front end dives way too much with the stock springs... I'ma keep my eyes peeled for your sonics...

Strom might be a good way to go with it's long stroke suspension.
'04 F to an E to a wreck to a Wee Strom?
HEL stainless brake lines

Kat 600 Rear shock
K&N drop in and Buddha jets

If he likes smooth soft rides that long suspension will probably be perfect for him. I put in progressive springs years ago, as well as heavier oil(which I think is due to be replaced, once I get to a shop that sells it). I also have one of those R6 shocks waiting to be installed, which I really want to do now, but I want to get my bike out for a ride or two before I put it in so I actually feel the benefit of it. What good is an upgrade if you don't remember how the old part feels??

im looking for shocks and springs,

let me know when you pull them.

In my opinion the Kat rear shock is much better than the stock one. I have set the  damping to 2 and the preload to 2. This setup is perfect for me. I have installed progressive fork springs with spacers and 15W oil -  it is a bumpy a little bit for me. I can feel the diference at the cornering but it is not so comfotable. I feel the riding safer with it. I am trying to find the right set for this as well. So I am sure that the suspension upgrade is the best mod what you can do if you want a safer and smoother riding.

Don't get me wrong I love the bike. I just liked original setup better. I don't ride aggressively. Want to doodle along in peace and quiet on this one. Does it bottom on bad bumps? Yeah, once in a while.  The roads by me are OK though.

The Kat shock is the better shock but I wanted the rear back down, to slow the steering back down.

I think you should replace your stiff .90 sonics with progressive springs.
You will hate stock springs - you will bottom them on first hole in the road.
Progressive springs are going to make your ride nice and smooth, but will never bottom.

Good luck with whatever way you go  :thumb:

I had a 1995 Kat shock,Progressives, and 20wt oil.It wasn't much stiffer than stock but it did help with the front end bottoming out and made the bike have a more even feel over rough roads.I now have a Kat 750 front end and a modified Kat shock.
PICS are GONE never TO return.
