my speedo is accurate to within 1/2 mph  its a vapor that you set the calibration on yourself.  I set it using my gps, and simple math.  had a friend verify with his county-issued radar gun.  dead on.  I know for a fact that my bike will do 104 ACTUAL.  was still accelerating, but run out of straight-away on the track

afaik  112.5 mph(180kph) is illegal about everywhere, including australia.  so dont get caught, and make sure your life insurance premium is paid

It still go 80mph in strong winds fine. Why would you want to go any faster on public roads?

Toogoofy317

My bike is about 5mph off. So if I'm going 45 it will read 50. There is a radar sign on the Osceola Parkway that I take about once a week and it always reads that way.

Now my 99 Pontiac Sunfire GT is right on the money so  :dunno_white:

...............I own a 2000 Suzuki GS500...............Most of the time it runs flawlessly, but it's had a quirk...................When I encounter exceptionally windy conditions, the engine often stumbles and sputters as if starving for fuel................The moment the gust lets up, the engine immediately settles back down and runs fine.........................The bike is absolutely stock........

To which CW gave a long winded answer about being too lean and rejetting, etc, etc...........
Follow up in latest June issue of CW:
In the ...Jan issue, TA described a problem with his GS500........I've had this same problem with two of my bikes........82 GS850GLZ........84 CB700SC.  I resolved the problem on both bikes by rerouting the carb float bowl vent tubes to keep them out of the wind..............

Something to think about, I find it very difficult to believe this is just a head wind problem posted by the OP.  I had my 97 GS500 up to 110 mph indicated with a Plexi 2 shield and my 250# butt on it.
gsJack, that's an unbelievable piece of info!
I have a 2007 "F" bike that's jetted:
Pilot    22.5
Mid    65
Main 140
Which would seem plenty rich enough yet I have the EXACT same occasional loss of power at speeds over 80 MPH.
I have putzed around with the issue for weeks.
Pinched fuel line?
Flow restriction?
Electrical ignition issue?

I will indeed look at the carb vent tube suggestion.
It would be nothing short of amazing if this simple act solved all those annoying power problems.
NOTE: You wisdom has saved me from my own lack of such numerous times.
Thanks for putting that info on the thread! :thumb:

People that run over the speed limits by more then 5 - 10 over are the ones that really give bikers that respect the laws a bad name.  Like have you ever noticed that if theres a motorcycle wreck you'll never know what kinda of bike it was unless its a crotch rocket.  I don't care how good you think you are when that car or truck or SUV pulls out in front of you they will be scrapping you off the hood of the 4 wheeled cager and putting you in a pine box.  If you wanna see how fast you can go goto a track either a road course or a drag strip.  keep it off the streets and stop making bikers look like asses while your out "having fun" .  if you want to kill yourself fine but don't indanger everyone else.

This is the key I think -- I don't see any problem with speeding when no one else is around, though.  It's also why I adamantly oppose the use of cell phones in cars.  You do not have the right to endanger people's lives.

It's not ok for me to point a loaded gun at you or shout fire in a crowded theater.  It's not ok for you to do stupid things with your vehicle when you might kill someone.

When travelling at high speeds, even a small motorcycle like the GS will impart a tremendous amount of energy into whatever it strikes -- you can kill car occupants.

The kinetic energy increases as a square of velocity -- you strike with twice as much energy at 40 mph as you do at 30.

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

so what your saying is its ok to rob a bank as long as you dont get cought. its ok to kill someone as long as there are no witnesses.

Not sure what it's like where YOU commute, but here in Jersey my policy is to take her up to about 75, stay out of the passing lane, and simply allow the majority of the faster cage traffic blow by me on my left.
Occasionally I'll open her up to blend into traffic in the passing lane but riding at those speed gets tiring mighty quick.

Point well taken there Josh but ya' kind of need to talk to the GSX-R or Bandit crowd.
The GS500 parallel twin is a gentle little puffer. :kiss3:

Hell half of my drive to work on I-10 if I'm not going 85-90 I'm in danger of getting run over by big rigs!! Going 75 chilling in the right lane is down right DANGEROUS.  I understand your conservative view points about not speeding on your motorcycle.. but going 10 or 15 over on the interstate is perfectly acceptable.  It's the idiots doing 80-90 (double the speed limit) around town that make us look bad.
