I just bought my first bike last week and it's a 2005 GS500F. The previous owner said he hadn't ridden in over a year because he couldn't get it to start. My friend and I found a blown fuse and the bike started up and ran fine....for three days. That third day, I was riding home and the bike stuttered a bit and the tach acted crazy, going dead then showing the engine speed correctly. This happened for maybe 10-15 seconds then went away and I made it home without any more problems.

It sat for the rainy weekend, then monday morning I started it up and the tach was not working at all and the engine was stuttering bad. When I would pull the front brake, the tach would magically work. Then release the brake and it wouldn't work again.

Today, it started up and ran fine for a few minutes. I stopped at the first stop sign and the engine died. It was acting like the battery was completely dead. I let the bike sit for a few minutes, turned the key on and the bike started right up and ran fine. When I left work heading home, the bike did the stuttering again and I stopped and turned it off for a few minutes. Started it up and made it home without any more issues.

I'm kind of weary of getting to far from home now because of the issue. Please help!! The bike looks great and I love riding it but I don't like worrying about it running right.

I think we have found the evil gremlin that has been haunting me....

So it was giving me hell today, the bike stuttered, then stalled. Started up and ran fine for the rest of the trip. We took off for a ride, stopped for gas, then the bike started acting up real bad. I managed to get back to my friends house and we proceeded to look for the issue. It seemed like problem was coming from a bad connection near the starter relay because when I jiggled the wires in that area, the issue would come and go. I disconnected the plug from the relay and noticed the fuse was loose in it's connector. I pulled it out and there were burn marks on it, like there had been arcing going on. A couple of minutes with a small flat head screwdriver and the connector held the fuse tightly. Lo and behold, no more problems....atleast for now!

Hey man, that seems like a good fix. You used logic and common sense to locate an uncommon problem; when you get some free time, you might want to check all the fuses and connectors, just for the peace of mind.

Good work; let us know if this happens again.
