Anyone have Valve shims?

I am looking for two valve shims that are thinner than stock, as I can't get the .03 guage between the cam lobe and shim on the exhaust valves.  If anyone has a couple that they'd like to swap for stock, I'd REALLY appreciate it!

Also I am willing to pay if you'd rather.  Just let me know!  I'd like to get the bike back on the road by this weekend!

Thanks in advance!!

May want to check out the two stickies for the East and West coast valve kit.  Not sure if they're still going around, but they should include a bunch of shims.

One of those dissapeared, I believe it was the east coast, which is why I never put my name on the list for it. How thick are the ones you have? I have the same problem of not being able to get my thinnest gauge under there to measure. I was going to ride to one of the local dealerships sometime soon so I could pick up a 245-250(all of mine are 260-265) so I can install that, then measure, then find out what I need. I think individual shims are about $5, so you might do best to try the same method, as you're gonna pay that much just to have one mailed to you anyway.

Do they have them in stock at the Suzuki dealership, or is it something they have to order usually?

I think i was quoted around $25 per shim, and you dont know the exact size you need.  The best thing to do is locate a shop that has those and would swap them with you for about $10, one of those old places that mostly sells used bikes and atvs.  On my Rt Ex, i went down one size and was within spec; I went down two sizes on the Lt Ex and still had zero clearance, the bucket would not spin freely.  After another two sizes lower I was within spec and my bike has run perfectly for the last 5 months.  I would be a waste of money to buy shims not knowing for sure if that is the size you need or not.  Make sure the shim diameter is EXACTLY the same size, I think its 30.5mm, I could be wrong, don't get the 30.0mm diameter shim, it is for a different brand bike like kawasaki or something.  If you can't fit the slimmest feeler but can turn the bucket, that means you have some clearance, one size lower should put you where you want to be.  If you can't even turn the bucket easily then I would go at least two sizes smaller, and you still might not be in the right range.  Good Luck.

the dealership closest to me was nice enough to give me shims if i swapped with my old ones. try asking a local suzuki dealership?

when i last did a valve clearance, i checked mine and had to swap with the dealer a few times to get it right.. i was lucky enough to be close to the dealership that was nice enough to just swap and not charge me

My dealership also swapped with me for free.  They initially loaned me 4 very small shims so I could get measurements, then I went back and they swapped for the sizes I needed.

I think our shims are 29.5mm, but don't quote me on that.

The lowest price I've seen online is $6.95 -- local dealer wanted $13.  Here's the store -- I have never ordered from them so I have no idea if it's a good place:

You could order 1 very small shim and move it between your buckets to get each measurement and then get the shims you actually need.

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

I'm pretty sure if you look around online you can find them for a couple dollars. $25 is WAY out of line.

Also, I'm pretty sure they're 29.5 as well.

I have a couple shims, 270 and 268 if anyone wants them.
