I saw that a couple weeks ago.  I wouldn't call it disturbing at all.   Different, maybe, but everyone grieves differently, so more power to him and his family.

If you lost a 22 year old member of the family, would you rather remember him enjoying his short life, or laid out in a casket?

I have a friend in my bike group who is a funeral director.   He's seen it, loved it, and suggested if that's what we want, then make sure it's in your will.   And he says he'll do the best he can...    :D
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

O.C.D.

Oddly different.  Almost an ominous foreshadowing of death to come (even if he didn't die on a bike).

They're gonna strap me in behind the wheel of a vintage Rolls Royce.  No tears allowed, nothing but the finest booze and a medley of 'My Way', 'It was a very good year' and 'The best is yet to come' playing.

That's all I want.

I don't think he was buried on the bike, it was just for the viewing.

Viking funeral, eh?   I was going to mention viking funerals, but nobody ever understands what I'm talking about!   I have a friend in my bike group who wants one.   The vikings knew how to throw a damn party when someone important died!    :thumb:

How did they fit him in a casket afterward :dunno_white: With rigor mortis and all.

Ashes are pretty flexible.   Just a guess, I don't know.  But there are ways to deal with rigor mortis.  I will ask my funeral director friend at breakfast if he's there Sunday.   :thumb:

Lucky you can trace that far.  I can only trace my family back to a ship that came over in the early 1600's.
But, I've got great details on the family once we got here.  I've got fairly immediate family that have fought in every major American engagement from the Revolution to myself and two cousins in modern day.  The really weird part is that we've all done pretty much the same thing in the Armed Forces........

I saw my funeral director friend this morning.   He said, no, they probably did not bury him on the bike.  Yes, he was either cremated after the viewing, or he was laid in a casket sort of sideways.   *OR*...he said that no, once the body is EMBALMED, you cannot really reposition it UNLESS you...um...BREAK things.

That is so cool, I wish I could trace things back but my grandmother on my mom's side was adopted and we know nothing past my great great grandparents on my dad's side.  This stuff is very interesting!

the maserati dring friend of mine ( while in the black forest area of germany recently, ran into some thomas while there, and MANY of the names the guy mentioned. i ddnt know about, YET many i did. ill have to get ahold of him and see where this would go. have to wait a week though friend is in italy. he sent me via MMS a picture of a motorised bicycle he saw at the ducati factory. dude has WAAAAY too much fun, got to tour the ferrari and hte maserati and the lambo facilities. and got to drive. told him to get back soon i wanted to rive hte gransport again lol. anyhoo back on topic, in germany berlin, among other locations. there is a street called bahr/thoma strasse. both are family names. heck i think i found my new hobby. following hte lines as far back as possible. regardingt the beermaking. i bought my dad a bottle from ebay. that had the names on it. from st louis MO, found hte coat of arms as well. that was interesting, that alos helped me interpret who or what we were back then, i was guessing beer/liquor before i found out. cause its contained within the CoA

and my great grandfather. hans  rudolf pufahl  whose home in the berlin area is still in family posession, came over on teh queenmary, also ended up being a ship captain early in his life. man he was wise beyond his years. ask him something he knew it. after he retired, left  home on long island( still in family as well) moved to coral springs FL. was mayor there for quite a while. before my time on this earth is over, i want to be able to travel, and visit family in teh UK, germany, poland, and norway, spend a few days at each location. but ehh who knows. its got my curiosity going i want to trace it, i could use ancestry .com, but its a pay site. ( and im broke lol)i can always find the birth/death records, in each country, ( since ive got living relatives there. not that hard to do. jsut more time consuming. but ive got some time so why not Eh?

What's really odd is that I enlisted into the field that seems to be a family tradition of sorts before knowing much about the family tree.  Sometimes, things just go beyond coincidence and you have to believe that traits like that really are inherited.
