IT's a 96 gs500e and about a month ago i did the dynojet stage 3 jet kit, jardine exhaust and k&n clamp on air filter, the other day on the way to work it died about 16 miles into the trip, pulled over, checked for gas, you could see some, tried to start it 3 or 4 times, finally started, drove another mile or 2 down the road, repeated the process and same thing happened, finally had my wife come and get me, last night on the way to a bike night same thing happened around the same mileage i'd say with same amount of gas, i've been driving it on reserve, cuz the first time this happened it was on fuel and the previous owner said it'd happened to him before so he rode it on resereve, so now that's what i do, also, i rode about 30 miles one way to go take my license test and when i went on that trip it didn't die, when it dies i'im doing like 60 and you can feel it starting to run outta fuel or surging then it'll die and i'll coast to a stop, my buddy is a bike mechanic said maybe the vaccume hose is pinching off, this sound like the possible problem? any other solutions ? possibly just might get a new petcock, any help please thanks,

Top the tank off and try again, the tanks are notorious for "looking like theres gas" but not actually having enough to be fed into the petcock.  Also, if it happens again after you fill it up open the fuel lid and see if it starts.  If so the fuel lid has a part in it thats cloged and not letting air into the tank and will need taken apart and cleaned.  There are a few other things to check but this is a good place to start.

I agree. Put more gas in.
Last time I drained the tank to clean it, I was surprised to see how much fuel was left in the tank that couldn't get out without tilting it.

#1 - Make sure you have enough gas.  I usually hit reserve at ~140 miles.  give or take depending on how i've been riding and how "full" i got the tank.
#2 - Make sure your fuel lines are on the correct fuel/reserve settings.  (There is a good diagram floating around here somewhere.)  I believe the longer outlet is 'res' and the shorter is on.' (thanks for correcting me, i was looking at the petcock wrong.. lol.)
#3 - Make sure your tank petcock (under the tank) is open correctly.
#4 - When it happens again, ride with the cap open - if this "fixes" the problem- your tank vent is clogged and creating a vacuum that is preventing fuel from flowing.
#5 - Your petcock vacuum lines may be clogged / pinched
#6 - (this is what mine was)  One or both of your vertical carb needles may be bent and 'sticking.'  Very carefully remove the black caps off of the carb and check to make sure the needles are in good condition.  A Visual inspection should be fine.  Mine was very obviously bent and you could see where it was rubbing and sticking.

On the tank petcock, short is ON, long is RES.

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

hmm, i'm thinking maybe it's short on fuel, when it died, i opened the gas tank, started it back up and stopped and filled it up at the next gas station i put almost 3 gallons into it, 2.97 to be exact...how much/far are you all running ;yours down before you refuel, also i had gone like 121 miles on the previous tank before refueling ?

quite a few threads about it but basically anywhere from 40-60's even. i get about 50 with current 70/30 surface/highway riding trend.

If this freshershest-thread-ever gets spoiled by petty fighting, I'm gonna be so mad.

I get about ~140 miles before I have to switch to reserve.  I get about ~50 miles to a gallon.. So I'm using *just less* than 3 gallons and switching to reserve.  Hitting that spot in the tank is just like the fuel starvation issue I was having.  If your lines are messed up you can switch to Pri when this happens and then hurry to a gas station.
