Homer

What do you collect?

I collect sealed, rare Nintendo games.
I've got nearly all the A through C levels (some multiple copies), some rares, one that never hit market, etc.
A few Sega, Colecovision, Atari, and some other stuff.

About $5k so far.  Keep an eye out for sealed games for me, if anyone here hits the markets.

A sample:

ohgood

got any Roms ? I gotta awesome emulator

Homer

Roms?

Crazy honkey!  We don't play no stinkin' roms!

8 bits on a 48" plasma, baby!

tt_four

I have over 800 vhs tapes.  :dunno_black: I'm trying to thin them out though. I put shelves in the one spare room, but there's only enough room for about 450 or so, so I'd like to get it down to just what fits on the shelves.

Other than that.... I have about 8 iron maiden t shirts, haha. That's not a collection though, that's just the way life is.

Homer

That's a ton of tapes!
Did you run or buy out a movie shop?
I've been wondering if retro video formats would ever have a come-back, kinda like audio with vinyl.

Can you burn them to disk?  Maybe you could run a rental system over the forum!  "TT's GSTwin Red Box"

I've never owned a shop, they're just so cheap now. The Record Exchanges around here used to sell them all for $1, so me and my wife would go in and spend $100 at a time just grabbing all kinds of movies that looked good or looked like they'd possibly be good. I'd bought collections of 50 or so at a time from people on craigslist, plus people who sell them at flea markets for 50 cents. We have a couple DVDs but I just hate them. You can only watch a movie 3 times before it starts skipping, and it was clearly a temporary media to begin with until they figured out all the online stuff, so I wasn't really interested. These tapes can last forever though. Besides, watching Valley Girl or Running Man on DVD just isn't as satisfying. I have a ton of cassette tapes and records as well. CDs are worse than DVDs.

Hey Homer, we still have my wife's old nintendo as well, if you're not gonna play those games, can I have them??
Megaman is still my all time favorite nintendo game. I can tear through that entire game in an hour like nobodies business.

Haha, if anyone was looking for a movie I'd let them borrow it. It would be like a ghetto netflix.

Ooh, by the way, I also collect motorcycles. My collection right now consists of a gs500, but I'm working on it.  :thumb:

Toogoofy317

I used to collect Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle had about 250 action figures! I also, collect Goofy pins and limited edition Disney pins. Got about two binders full or about 300 total

I also enjoy video games. Right now I'm hooked on COD MW2.

2004 F, Fenderectomy, barends, gsxr-pegs, pro grip gel covers, 15th JT sprocket, stock decals gone, custom chain guard,GSXR integrated mirrors, flush mount signals, 150 rear tire, white rims, rebuilt top end, V&H Exhaust, Custom heel and chain guard (Adidasguy)

Homer

I had a Ninja Turtle or two.
My parents thought I was ghey one time, so they went out and bought a ton of action figures.
Poor manipulatable rednecks.
I got a Castle Greyskull that way and a few guys from He-man.  And that stupid tiger with schizophrenia.

Wish I still had that Greyskull.  D@mn thing's worth a fortune now, since they were so fragile.
Dad stepped on mine.  The bastard.

Do you still have the TMNTs?

[Wouldja look at that.  The spell-checker doesn't recognize "manipulatable".]

tt_four

I forgot about those things. I've got rubbermade bins at my parents house full of ninja turtles, he-man stuff, gi joes, match box cars, and I'm not sure what else. They refuse to throw them away, haha. I was 6 though, so I don't know that I would call it much of collecting, I just wanted more toys.

At the same time, lately I feel like I should be going to the store and buying stupid toys and just storing them away in the boxes so that when I'm 65 I can bust them out and see what they're worth. I'm not really sure what kinda toys would be cool in 40 years though, and I'm hesitant to fill a chunk of my basement toys I know nothing about with the chance that when I'm 65 everyone just says "why'd you buy this junk??" and I realize I just wasted half of my money when I was younger.

Homer

Have any of these?  (Which is a bargain.  Saw an AMA 70 Optimus go for $8K the other day.)

I want him so f-ing bad.
Seriously, do you have any?  Even unpackaged?
Dad crushed mine.  All I've got left is a Mini-Con I hid in my pocket.  He sits on the sink ledge and helps me brush my teeth every day.

The Buddha

I guess I have recently started collecting audio junk.

So if any of y'all find a big massive receiver/amp somewhere PM me. I am specifically looking for a marantz 25 series. 25xx model. Love the 2226 I have, am disappointed by the 4230, thinking the 22-25 series is the way to go. And while I am at it, Pioneer SX 1250, SX1980, almost any SX followed by a 4 digit number, kenwood super G's, yammie cr2040 etc etc etc. Big and massive is the code word. Find it, ping me.

Then speakers, though I cannot buy em out of some other part of the country ... except parts there of ... I like heil's and ribbons like infinity etc. I got 3 ess amt 1b's and 2 ESS ls5 tempests. Someone comes across an amt 1 B should run and buy it. Those sound awesome. I also got electrovoice sp12b's, and several pairs of others. Ribbons, horns, amt's, compressions etc.

CD players - well I am modding them, out with the op amp section of the transport, and put in tubes or a fet based transport. A 100 buck CD player vs a 10,000 cd player is apparently 5-40 bucks worth of transport fitted behind a better dac chip. The $5 will be fet based, the 40 is tube based.

LP's - yikes, in the last month I have got 200 of em. 4 players, I have a couple of garrards, a pioneer and a panasonic. I thought the damn thing is so complicated and what not, and if I should give it up, and my son says, can we listen to music with the big balck thing that goes round and round like a tire. At another time, we're talking about cd vs tape and what we do to convert all into cd or we go Mp3 etc, and I ask her if she wants any of the LP's onto mp3, she says, no no, vinyl sounds damn good. I went, thank god, you can hear it too, I thought I was imagining things.

Tube amps - have 2 consoles with tube amps in em. Killed a third one for the amp. These 2 also gonna get gutted, though the body is so nice I will keep it as storage prolly.
Then I have a bogen challenger PA amp that I'll mod to a guitar amp, a dynaco st70 with missing parts and a grommes g75a that is 50 years + old, and looks like it left the factory yesterday. It must have been in a church and never ever touched.

Cassette players - have marantz, pioneer, nakamichi, onkyo, yammie etc. Another collection going in this one.

Yea ... and motorcycles ...

I have been fixing amps through winter, and have ended up with about 30 of em ...
Cool.

I have one of these if you want it:

High fidelity is wasted on me.  My hearing crapped out after an explosion.
Audio guys blow my mind.  You guys are hardcore!

(A-hole that crushed my Castle Greyskull)  Suck it, Dad!  You're on the internet now.

The Buddha

What is it, pic too small and I am not familiar with it.
Oddly, I am semi hard of hearing. With age I am finding it harder to hear some stuff, jack bauer's hissing voice requires several hours of adjusting on the equaliser before you can hear that ...
I think amps need to come with a "jack bauer" setting in their DSP mode. Forget church Freiburg, or roxy theater ... I wanna see a Jack bauer.
Big receiver ? I want, trade GS work for it ? you're in western NC aren't you.
Cool.
Buddha.

Haha, I don't think I had any transformers. I do remember I had some WWF wrestling figures too. Someday I'll walk around the toy store and see what kinda stuff looks like it might be really expensive in half a century.

tt_four

oh, I have a pee-wee herman doll too. My mom hated him when I lived at home, and my wife hates him now that I'm married, haha. I was gonna put him on ebay, but I'll be surprised if he sells for more then a dollar or two.

Homer

Says on the back "Kenwood KRF-V7772D"
It's got a big digital remote with a screen, does all sorts of fancy stuff.
I've got some Klipsch 5.1 speakers, too, if you want 'em.  Have little feet on them.

I like them, cause they have little feet.  But, wifey says they "don't follow the flow of the space".  Whatever that means.

Sounds good.  PM me, we'll set something up.

The Buddha

Klipsch has to be pre 82 I wanna say, them feet things I believe were called monsters or gremlins or rats or whatever, and I am sure if you plugged the wires into the animal they were modelled after, they would sound better. Klipschorn and la scala's are good. Old school.
Kenny Home theater series ... like it, but its pretty common, good for a 100 or so worth of hard labor, easy, plus I can always find some local nut to hand over a marantz or 2 for it.  :cookoo:
Lemme research it ... and I should tell you, 100 bucks will get you a lot of work @ the buddha. A GS valve check + a carb job ... especially if you'd be over to help/watch/learn and stuff isn't stripped. Of course you can select what work you need, no sense doing valves on a bike with a bigger and more immediate problem. Only thing is, I work a lot better @ my house, crazy and disorganised as it is ... so for any serious work you're gonna have to make the run.
Cool.
Srinath.

I guess lately, I would say documents and the like of historic or academic significance.

I've managed to snag a set of 230 year old copper plate print maps, a 180 year old arms and armour reference in two volumes and I have a pencil sketch of the state capital of South Carolina, drawn by Alfred Waud.  Go ahead, google the name 8)  There are a few originals of his in the LoC and neither myself nor an appraiser could find reference to a recent sale of an original work.
I'm going to take it up to USC at some point and try to get someone in the history dept. to help me figure out for whom it was drawn.  There's a pretty vast digitized collection of diaries and correspondence among important person and this guy wouldn't have done a private piece cheaply.
