You know what I really want?

I want a notepad that mounts on my handlebars.

I have waterproof paper, and I LOVE it.  I use it all the time, but I have to dig it out of my courier bag.
Paper:

My bag:  (expensive, but waterproof and HUGE)

I want something like this:

But, I don't wanna pay $50 for it.
I already have a RAM mount, but not the notepad adapter.
Considered just using velcro - but I want to be able to see my notes at a glance.
I'm not fond of tankbags - too much fooling around at gas stations, scratches, etc.

There's a bracket on my 650R handlebars, looks like this:

Any creative ideas?

For directions, or for when you think of an idea when you're sitting in traffic? Sometimes if I'm going somewhere new I'll write out directions and tape them to my gas tank, or else I've had tank bags with a clear map pocket on them that was very useful.

I have one of those bags, it's the kremlin which is one size up from that one. It's beyond ridiculous, and wraps around me like a blanket, haha. I traded some kid a bicycle hub I had for his used reload bag though, which isn't quite as big, so I usually use that one instead if I need it. I've pretty much just gone back to wearing a backpack though. My bag works well enough for the small amount of rain I'm in now and don't need a bag that's completely waterproof, plus those bags kill my back if I'm doing anything else buy riding a bicycle. I have no idea how people walk/motorcycle/moped wearing them as that's clearly a giant fashion over function(not to mention the long term well being of your back). That reminds me I should put that chrome bag on ebay while I'm at it this weekend. I wouldn't mind one of their waterproof backpacks, but I think the roll top corners would get in the way of seeing behind me when I was on a motorcycle.

I just got a pair of the shoes for free that chrome just started making too. They're basically like super beefy converse. Apparently they were just giving them away a month or two ago. My friend got a pair but they were half a size too big for him, so he gave them to me. Good stuff.

For taking notes and general reminders.  Things like that.

I write my plans for the day before I leave home, but never get to use it -stuck down in my bag.

There's this:

But, again, I don't wanna pay so much.  It's a d@mn bracket, for crissakes!

I COULD make something with a piece of sheet metal and my Dremel, but it'd flop all around and look like dookie.

Homer

Basically, I want something just like the link above, but I don't wanna pay 30 gajillion dollars for a d@mned bracket!

Using something like this for a posable arm:

As long as it'll decently support writing pressure.

Kinda like this:

But, with a flat plate at the top, with good 3M velcro that snaps instead of tears.

  Why is motorcycle stuff so expensive!

PachmanP uses strong magnets to just stick his notes/directions directly to the gas tank.

Good idea.  Thanks!
I always forget about magnets.
I have a few neodymiums laying around.
Maybe I'll add some neoprene or something.

Still.... I'd like it up near the handlebars/gauges.  Everything's plastic or aluminum up there, though.

you could make something out of a sheet of aluminum or sheet metal but bend it around the edges to give it stability.  A flat piece will flop unless you use a thick enough gauge but if you add bends to it you will greatly increase the strength of the piece.  I say aluminum cause it will be easier to bend.

Oooo

They'll have mounts for the Sprint Evo I might be getting.
Turn-by-turn, mobile hotspot, MP3, radio, etc.
Has face-to-face chat, so my wife can talk to me on long rides and see that I'm ok.  She thinks that's cool.

Am I understanding correctly?  :o

Someone wants to read and write stuff, while driving a motorcycle in traffic?  :cookoo:

I MUST be gettin old.  :icon_rolleyes: :technical:

bassmechanicsz

I understand it as he is only going to actually write stuff while stopped at a light but it is mostly for being able to read notes from a notepad which would be similar to reading directions in a map pocket on a tank bag or looking at a gps.

I couldn't imagine trying to write going 50mph on a motorcycle.
