GS struggles for Power

I recently bought a 2000 gs500 and I am having some issues.  When I am cruising at highway speeds (100-130km) I have sudden loss of of any throttle response. My RPMS begin to drop and when I try and accelerate the motorcycle revs slightly louder but without any power being produced to the rear wheel. The bike becomes jerky sometimes as it wants to accelerate but can't and I have to pull over. This happens to me mostly on the highway but has also happened at lower speeds in town. I have actually had the bike turn completely off while driving on the highway. The strange thing is this doesn't happen all the time. I can be an hour into a ride and the problems start happening and other times they begin right from the get go. Also, I have an issue when I am stopped in first gear.. As I accelerate out of my stop I have to get the RPMs up to around 5 or 6000 just keep the bike running out of the stop. This doesn't happen at every stop but happens very frequent. I'm looking for any bit of information that might help me out. I thank you for you time in advance

Could be a couple things, but the two most likely are gas or clutch.

Gas could be low, try running on PRI
Gas cap could be clogged, clean the vent
Petcock diaphragm could be an issue, try running on PRI

Clutch could be slipping.  Try changing your oil.  This is the least likely.

Lastly, try repositioning the carb upper vent tube so it's out of the wind.

Carbs could be dirty for your starting from a stop issue.

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

I'm facing a similar problem currently with it dropping rpms on the freeway and when giving it throttle the sound deepens but the rpms stay the same. I also used to have the same problem at stop lights. It turned out the guy I bought my bike from said it just had a carb issue. Turned out to be a busted exhaust valve. So you could check your compression if you have a tester handy
