I just picked up my new bike yesterday- 09 GS500F- only ridden it 5 miles and getting the hanging idle problem- idle will inter stay at 3,000
Dealer is supposed to pick up and check out-
what could be wrong with a new bike? that would cause this-

Idle screw set incorrectly.  Start the bike, warm it up completely until you can turn the choke off all the way, then use the big screw in between the two carbs to set the idle to 1200-1300.

I'm not sure if its just idle screw- since sometimes it is fine and idles at 1,200 and other times it stays at 3,000 or so- seems like it is getting to much fuel or something?

Make sure your choke is all the way forward once it's warmed up, a stuck choke will idle very fast.

We'll i rode it around and it did it again-  I decided i'll try and adjust idle when it was running at 3,000 rpm and adjusted it down to 1,200 and rode it 10 miles, seems to be working great now-  hope it continues
thanks all

When stopped, try turning your front wheel from full lock left to full lock right.  See if you get a difference in throttle.  Could be your throttle cable is getting stuck on something.
