Hey Everyone.. Just Joined up.. Thought I'd Stop By and Say Hey!  Just bought a 1990 Gs500! 8)  Oh and I'm from Oshawa Ontario Canada!

So.. I got the Bike and Now I've completely stripped it down to bare... its going in for a total sand blast and then a Repaint and some customization.  Here's the Plans!  The Frame is gonna be painted Black then shot with clear and copper pearl and Then Reverse For the Tank.. Copper with a Black Pearl in the Clear!  Most of the Small Pieces that were chromed I have sent to a friend that is layin carbon fibre over them.  The rear tire has been maxed out too a larger size.. and chopped and hid a few peices to make it cleaner lookin!  I will post some pics of the progress as soon as the bike gets back from the sandblasting!

As for my Technical Question.. Before I stripped the bike down I was runnin it and it seems that one carb is not heating the pipe as much as the other... now I know too check for spark fuel etc..  But I was just wondering if this is a common GS problem and someone can point me in the right direction on what to check for first?  I'm thinkin it might be coil or carb syncing....

Here's a Pic of the Bike Before I stripped it!

Hope to Chat with a Few of you Soon and Learn something about these bikes!

Check ya's later!

looks like you already have a modded rear wheel (most likely off a katana) so you're already running wider than stock in the back.

otherwise it looks stock (soon wont though?) sounds great! welcome to the forums.

as for the carb question, i've never noticed anything of that nature. did you check the plugs? see if one plug is distinctly different from the other. how was the bike running other than a cooler side? stumbling? hanging idles or anything?

also looks like you got the 89 clip-ons but with risers? i've never seen that.. haha

can't wait to see your project come together!

If this freshershest-thread-ever gets spoiled by petty fighting, I'm gonna be so mad.

Well Too me.. The bike seemed to Run awsome!.. ha.. but thats how it was runnin when I bought it... It was my buddy that noticed that the one pipe was runnin really cool... It actually idles really nice and sounds good.. I do get a backfire if I rev it alot.. but that could be normal?.. Since his bike does the same thing and its brand new...

As for the Clip ons.. they were also already on the bike when I bought it.. but hey thats cool with me if its somethin someone hasn't seen.. since I'm trying too make the bike custom. 8)  It would be nice if by my picture people could explain some of the Bike too me.. it seems that the gentleman I bought it off may have changed a few things on me!

I will for sure Keep updating this thread as the bike comes back and paint and peices start going back on!

I notice you don't like the letter "G", you live in Ontario, and you say "check ya's later".
Question:  Are you Sarah Palin?

Can you post a picture, holding your sparkplugs in your cleavage?
I love you... :kiss3:

Spasticated

I'm confused by your comment on not liking the letter "G" and also I have no clue who Sarah Palin is... although I did google her to see if she's hot.. but turns out she really isn't.

Spasticated, meet Homer. That was probably one of his least controversial/confusing posts. :dunno_black: :)

If one pipe is much cooler its likely one cylinder is not firing at least some of the time. Does this happen at idle, or even after a run? You say the idle was very steady...in my experience, the GS has avery steady sounding idle when its running on one cylinder!

Spasticated

Yes the bike Idles quite nice doesn't sound like anything is wrong... the one pipe stays pretty much stone cold while it idles, but after a run seems warmer but I'm thinkin thats just diffusion of the heat from the one pipe that gets smoking hot.. also I pulled the plug wire on the cold side and it didn't change the idle at all.. but when I pulled the hot side it died right away... I'm hoping is something simple like a new coil and not a bad cylinder.. I really just wanted to put it out there to see if its a commom problem, so when I put the engine back in i had some input on what it might be. But sounds like its not and I'm gonna have to do some investigating..!

Sarah Palin isn't hot, hunh?
Well, see if I show you how to test a spark plug without sticking a nail in the plug wire!

And, then, if it sparks nice and blue when you hold it to something grounded and bump the starter...
Just see if I help teach you about cleaning the carb with a brass wire brush, a Philips screwdriver, a metric wrench set, some newspaper, and the pictures in the How-To section on the main page!

But I already know how to do that stuff... I have a spark tester.. I rebuild small engines all the time (lawn mowers etc) I also have a degree in auto mechanics.. I just wanted to know if there was a common problem so I didn't have to dink around for hours testing stuff once I put the engine back in... since  I've never played around with one of these engines.  No to me Palin def isn't hot.. Put her and Kate Beckinsale side by side and pick one.. Palin looks like you tied her to the back of my Jeep and went muddin for the day in comparison! :icon_eek:

If the problem is only at idle, it could be just a blocked idle jet (I had that last week). If it only runs on one cylinder all the time, you need to do the testing!

Homer

Can I have your diploma since you're not using it, then?

It has happened before, sometimes fuel related, some times electrical.  For me, I hoped it was electrical because I'm comfortable with electronical things and I hate messing with carbs.  It was a clogged pilot jet.
