Does anybody know the size and threadpitch of the tiny screw that holds on the Trip Distance Reset Knob on?  I was driving down the road and noticed something bounce off the road.  I turned around and found the knob lying on the road, but no screw in sight (not a surprise).  Maybe next time, I'll put some loc-tite on it.

Apparently, the knob fell out of my pocket :dunno_black:.  Anybody got one of those, and a screw too?

I couldn't find the right size at the hardware store. So, I broke down and bought them from the dealer. BTW if you do buy it for the dealer just buy the knob it comes with the screw. I bought the screw too. Was $2 for that danged little screw. If I can find it I'll give it to ya!

Do not put locktite on it.

I'ma disagree with the Buhhda. I put a tiny drop of blue on mine and was able to get it back off. That said it would be a super pita if you stripped the head.

Also, I just ended up buying the knob from the dealer. I think Mary spent a month trying to get one from anybody parting their bike.

Yeah, looks like I'm taking a trip to the dealer.  Doubt they have it in stock...

Good luck....mine fell out a few weeks ago, given up trying to get one out of the dealer.....might borrow one off a bike on the showroom floor to help motivate them...

I'm quite sure they would notice you pulling out your jewler's screwdriver and messing with a bike. But, hey if $7 is worth it to ya more power to you!

Ahh yeah, I found the screw. Do I advance my karma? Sure, if you need it send me the addy it's yours! The 2$ screw that says suzuki motor Espana but made in Holland! Will also come with the brass dohicky that goes in the knob. Don't know why they said I needed to buy this because both came with the knob.

Now watch the day I send it out the day my screw will fall out LOL!

Found the knob... it was in my other pants.  After I found the knob, I went to the local hardware screw to find a screw.  They had metric screws, but they didn't have any that were long enough for me to physically thread it in (I couldn't reach into the cavity with my fingers).  Luckily, a guy working there happened to also have a suzuki and I talked him into taking his screw out and checking the thread for me.  It turned out to be a 1.6mm screw (apparently, there is only one thread pitch for 1.6mm).  I bought the screw even it's too long with the intent of shortening it.  I re-installed the knob with the screw that's too long.  The screw bottomed out and the knob will pull out a bit, but not enough to care.  Maybe I will get around to shortening the screw... eventually... maybe.

get a small diameter bushing to fill the gap, if they make one that small.

Or he could just save a lot  of time and effort by just sending me his address :dunno_black:

Thanks Mary.  Too much trouble to have you send it to me.  I'll just make do with what I got...

OK, I have read the trip knob posts.....and I ordered the screw for the knob I ordered 6 years ago.

What I received is a screw/bolt that has a head on it about as wide as a dime..it's about the diameter of the trip knob itself.  I looked at the part number from bike bandit.....matched the part number sticker on the baggie.  I expected a tiny screw you would use a precision screwdriver to install......I received a part with a allen head fitting.

Is this what yours looks like?

I just talked to bike bandit....they said the part number I ordered was verified through suzuki.....it's number 3 on their speedo/tach diagram.  Wondering if the wrong part number is listed on the parts list.

They will resend it .... but it will probably be another just like the one I have.

Anyone have a pic of what it really looks like?  I may just order it through alpha sports...diff part number.

Thanks in advance...

I'll get you the pic tonight. My cell krapped out and my old one doesn't have a camera.  Will have to get home to get my good camera and I'll snap a  pic.

All it is though is a really really small phillips head!

PS it does come with a small brass piece too but for me that was already in the knob.

Mary

Part number from Suzuki is 34124-01da0-000

Thanks Mary,
I found it on Alpha and Ronayers......diff part number than on BB.  Will give them one more shot at sending the right part since I already bought it once.  Local dealership is an hour away or I would just drop the 8 bucks.

I know for a fact that what I have is not the correct screw......This is big enough to attach the speedo or tach in place.

Thanks again

The part number I put on there is off of the Suzuki Sticker on the package of the screw. Of course I walked out of the house and forgot to bring the danged screw. So, now I have a camera and no screw!

Mine fell out last year. I carry a pair of pliers in my tank bag to reset the trip miles now.  :icon_lol:
