what size are your jets exacly? full exhaust or slip-on? What rpm did you shift? How hard were your launches?

Mine feels faster than a 15 sec. (my car runs a 14.8 at 96mph and my bike feels much faster) Now I am curious and will have to hit the track.

slipon, with stock headers.  jets are either 142.5  or 147.5  I'm thing the 142.5's though  some launches were harder than others, and on the good launches, I would miss second gear    I have gotten a 14.97@84.73  I dont know what rpms I launch or shift at, as I never have gotten the tach to read properly

when I launch on the street I rev to 6000-7000 and let the clutch out quickly, but not dumping it, while rolling the throttle to full. I clutchless shift at 10500rpm. when I go i will be reaching for a 14.6 or quicker hopefully going more than 85mph.

At the track, I rev it up until I hear the valves start to float, at around 9K RPMs. I try to let off the clutch just shy slower of lifting the front wheel.

The forum interprets text with the form aaa at bbb dot cc as a email address, and linkifies it. E.g.:

aaa@bbb.c isn't a link
aaa@bbb.cc is a link
aaa@bbb.ccc is also a link
aaa@bbb.cccc also works.

why would your valves be floating at 9k? When I dynoed my bike the power band was strong all the way to 11000 (after the mods) if there had been valve float the power would have started to drop off. my power peak wasn't until 10000rpm and it barely droped off until 11000ish when it fell off the map, presumably due to float.

tighter clearances maybe?

Might be too tight a clearance - I was at about .03mm when I checked after my last race, and added another 5mm.

I hear a loud metallic sound above 9K that really sounds like valve float. I also notice that power falls off very quickly above 10K.

The bike is also a 93, so it's possible that the springs have fatigued somewhat.

I checked my valves a month after the dyno, the exhausts were 0.04" (both) the intakes were 0.06" (both again)
