As I was ridng today I was thinking about getting some clipons or a cheap alternative with the same end result( a more aggressive possition) anyways I was thinking of whether or not flipping the stock bars upside down with what is now the right would be on the left. Anyone tried this? 09' GS500F... I wanted to get someones opinion before I actually tried it and it not be possible. Lol

cant be done without doing bar risors due to the bend in the bars they will not clear the fork tub top or the top triple plate.

In general the idea works. My friend has a speed triple(jeremy jock: he's on this forum) that had the bars the same way. He stuck with them for a while, but like Josh said, the riders are a little too low for it to work on the GS. Try some drag bars. They'll be pretty close to clip ons and you can find them for $20 all over the place.

I was just getting on the forums to ask this same question after riding all weekend with my friend and his SV650S.. which uses that aggressive clip set up (stock on sv650s) Anyone know if they would fit on a gs500f?

Don't think so, the SV has a 41mm fork tube ours is a 37mm. There are after market manufactures that make them but you will have to make a mount to hold your gauge cluster since you will need to remove the upper triple bracket. I want the suburban machinery SV650 SM2 bars but don't want to spend the $150 for them.

This question comes up at least once a week, now.  Search the forums, there are tons of options.  Cheap options, drag bars and clubmans. 

The pair I was using came from a honda cbr f1 if I remember right. They were cheaper than buying vortex clipons.

I still recommend drag bars or some kind of clubmans that are wide though though, because clamping your bars straight to the fork tubes will give off a ridiculous amount of vibration since you no longer have those rubber bushings between the two top clamps.

Don't bother with clip-ons unless you're willing to install them under the tripples. There are plenty of inexpensive handlebars that will fit the GS, that can provide pretty much any riding position you might want.

I hate when I meet people that have R6's and they're like, "What are you riding?", and I respond "GS500F", and what comes to mind to them is the standard bars. I almost want to get clip ons so I can deny the bike's standard bar heritage, lol.

I really don't understand this forums obsession with clip-ons. It's pretty dead simple:

If you race install clip-ons.
If you ride on the street, keep the bars.
If you don't like the stock bars, buy a different set of bars.

Yes, didn't you know, only racers can enjoy clip-ons, and only if they're under the triples.  Silly street riders.

But seriously, I prefer clip-ons over the standard bars, and I don't race.  I think putting them under the triple would be overkill, UNLESS you are racing.  I haven't tried clubmans or the SV suburban machinery bars, but they look to be roughly the same height and position as clip-ons would be.

Clubman and Drag bars are a good option for modifying the ergonomics for race use.

Bars are pretty much generic; you can most any 7/8ths inch bar on a GS that pleases you. If I were riding my GS on the street, I'd probably install a Renthal bar or equivalent.

Clipons are a detriment to handling if you ride using a neutral body position, and really, hanging off on the street is straight up silly.

I used a set of clubman cafe raisers off ebay got them for $28. I love them sits lower than the stock 89 clipons but it made a lot of differences in handling i think. if you would like to see some pics e-mail me and i will send you some.

Does anyone know the pullback of the stock bars, so I don't get the same exact riding stance lol.
