gsxr pegs...adjustments?

Today I installed gsxr rear pegs, like a lot of you have. I did it for the extra legroom, ground clearance, bla bla bla. anyway, with them installed there definitely is more leg room, so much so that the shifter and rear brake levers were too high. So I adjusted the brake lever position and it works fine, then I adjusted the gear lever position.

Thats where the trouble comes in, the gear lever has teeth on it so it must be moved 1 tooth at a time. well with the lever parallel to the ground (stock position) it is so high that up-shifting almost requires me to move my whole leg up. moving it only 1 tooth down makes a 2 inch difference, this is now way too low. I can get my boot under it easily, but when I go to up-shift, it requires much more force than before, because the force now has to move the lever up AND around. Because of this I keep missing the 1-2 shift, and the rest engage well but there is absolutely no shifter feel. To compensate I apply more force, I am scared I will bend a fork or something, Because I am using quite a bit of force.

Has anyone else gotten this problem?
how did you remedy it?
is there a shift lever out there that has a bend (up or down) that would fit?

If there is no other way I will take a torch to the dang thing and put a bend in it, I am very serious as this is driving me crazy. I dont want to bend it if possible. no Im not gonna put the ugly stock ones back on.

Which ones you are using. the Official GSXR pegs or the Ebay pegs like I have.

eBay, the issue isn't with fitment. they fit good after grinding the land down a bit. its the adjustment of the shift lever afterwords that I'm having problems with.

I ran into the same issue. Moving one spline up or down is way too much and the middle ground is not good enough. I've been riding like that, but I may throw the stock ones back on.

I think if I put a bend in the bar to move the shifter down one inch it would be perfect with the lever in the stock position. I may try this tomorrow.

Mine fit perfectly with my riding boots on. If you want I can try and take some detailed pics tomorrow

had these laying around on my photobucket account.

Hope this helps some!

The best suggestion I have is thicker boots. i was riding in steel toes combat boots and the shifter felt perfect, but if i try to ride in real riding boots i have the same problem you do. Try taking a small piece of metal bar and strap it to the shifter or something to make it wider.

black and silver twin

i always ride in my timberland steel toe work boots, and the pegs fit fine. its the position of the shifter that is the problem. because of the new pegs lower height the shifter was too high so I rotated it down one tooth, now its way too low. I need a way to move the shifter a half tooth or bend it.

You could buy an extra one off a parts bike and play around with it.
Start playing with your only one and it'll probably break, and all the replacements will suddenly vanish.
The universe is like that.
Bend it, or take the rubber off and build it up with weld, bar stock, or epoxy.

If you get it halfway decent, people would be interested in pictures.  Or, maybe even buying copies.  Sort-of in a kit with pre-modified Ebay pegs.

Edit:
As far as other levers fitting the spline pattern - it'd take a while to find one with just the right length and bend.  I'm sure the perfect one may be out there, but you might as well modify a donor to fit perfectly.

well I was to impatient to buy another one to screw with so I bent the stock one. I managed to bend it a few degrees in a few spots without getting any stress marks. The total bend is approx. 1/2". I basically put it in a vice and hit it with a plastic dead blow hammer so there would be no marks but the vice left some marks. It feels good just shifting in the bay at work, I will take it out and test it later, I will then post the results.

With the bent lever it is definitely tons better than either position before. I remeasured and its bent down approximately 3/8". It is still a bit high so I will try to bend it another 1/8-1/4" on monday. But honestly I could probably live with it like this, but I wont, I will get it perfect. the position of the shift lever has always annoyed me even with stock pegs. it feels about like stock with it bent this much so since ive already started bending I might as well make it better than ever.

Well, couldn't wait till this evening. Its a guy thing I get it LOL
Anyhow here is a pic of the shifter.

This is with a guy's 8.5 Nike positioned pretty much how I ride. Sorry wasn't pulling out the riding boots with a temp of 103. My riding boot does slide up about an inch more than shown here but I have no problems shifting.

And a close up of the joint:

Hope this helps in some way!

your shifter is in the same position I started out with which was too high. can you even complete an up shift like that?
I almost couldn't, that's why I tried moving the lever down one notch, which ended up being way too far down.
One difference is I have size 12 mens steel toe high top work boots (required by my job)
another difference is I have clipons under the tree and Im 6' tall so I lean forward quite a bit.

what I did was bend the shift arm down so its lower, making my apparently limited ankle travel be in the sweet spot. or close anyway.

ya know it might take into consideration that I'm female and my feet could be at just the right angle .or height yada yada.... I guess I got really lucky cause only 1 out 40 shifts do I accidentally go into neutral. It could be my boots Frank Thomas.

If I can help with more pics lemme know. Sorry, if I seem a little off tonight I've got a high fever and my body hurts all over.

I have a modified katana shifter on mine, it is completely adjustable, and I flipped the shifter side around so it shifts backwards, gp style.  helped eliminate alot of false neutrals, plus its super pimp.

What do you mean modified? Do you have pictures?

Also, is it possible tu put those GSXR pegs on the passengers?

I has same issue, bent mine but heated it up first and it bent like putty with no hammering. I put the bend in middle of the arm, away from the weld.

Did same to my handlebars, which tilted back too much for my wrists.

Steel is nice material.

i had the same set with the same problem so i went with a F3 rearset and love them.
