Well I recently relocated to Blackfoot Idaho. Having the time of my life being that I am from the West Coast and spent the last 21 of 22 years of my life on the East Coast (Hate it). It just so happens that when I got here they have opened up the Chinook Salmon season again for the second year after being closed for 27+ years. I got a lot of fishing done and a lot of riding done to. The Epicenter of this fishing was in the tiny town of Ellis, Idaho. From there it is one of the most exhilarating rides along the Salmon river to the town of Salmon, Idaho.

The elevation there is pretty high, this is right outside Chalis, Idaho

And this is looking back from where I just came from!

I took a S-load of pictures and I had an issue with my camera..call it head space and timing or what ever but I fixed it before I went on a ride from Ellis to Salmon to North Fork to "Shoup" Idaho. If most of you look up on Google and see where this is I have to tell you it was one of the best rides of my life. There is a place where the Salmon river acually comes to a stop! It's quite odd considering how fast the Salmon River is and the fact that is one of the few rivers in North America that actually travels "North" to the ocean

Misquitos were atrocious so I took the picture and left in a hurry! Right after that I was doing a modest 50+ MPH and came upon 3 mountain goats. 2 females and a baby. I stopped as fast as I could, before I could even get my camera out they were gone straight up a 1000+ foot cliff. So I kept going and the road turned to gravel. I didn't want to tear up my lower fairing so I was about ready to turn around and look what I found!

If you where to look this town up on the internet..it is "One of the last gravity fed gas pumps in America". Don't even ask how much a gallon it was! So I was thirsty and they don't sell beer by the can, I bought a 6-pac and hung out for about an hour and went back south to Ellis to go fishing!

So here is some of the Chinook Salmon!

Most people will never get to see what I saw. There is a hatchery 3 miles above where fishing is legal and you can see all of the fish that make it there. Needless to say there are "Pigs" in there and I got wet taking these pictures! ( They have to replace the fence every 2 years) see why below...15-20 pounds counstantly hitting the fence at full force!

Me just fishing in paradise!

PS I know how to fly fish. You'd never catch one of these fish fly fishing...ever...they don't feed. They are going to die...you have to piss them off to catch them.

I ENVY YOU! What an ideal vacation.

Everyday I had to go up to the hatchery to convince myself there are fish here...But some of those fish...I would not want to catch cause you know you couldn't catch them and that would just piss you off! There where 30LBS monsters in there. And before you say anything.. you are working against a 5MPH current witch technically doubles the weight of the fish!

Fly fishing for salmon in entirely possible. Ive caught many in the tribs of Lake Ontario. Big streamers stripped fast and erratically will produce a strike out of anger.

You are a MORON! Fly fsh in that fast water? Maybe....Not likely...a 20lb in that water is over 30 lbs but you must know some wiz bang geometry that don't so. Bottomline is it ain't lake fishing like you Cannucks do.

Looks good. One of the sites I work with is on the Priest River in the western part of Idaho. They are trying to get me to head over there some time, I just may do it after seeing some of these pics.

I don't know the "Preist" area but if you do go to Challis/Ellis bring "ROE" and "Tuna" these people are hard to get information out of but that is what they caught them on. If you know how to make a ball you will catch them.

I had one on for 15 seconds, he jumped, line went taught, he jumped again and I was holding the drag and the line broke! And then the son of a building block jumped 4 more times!

Im not going to say landing a salmon or steelhead on a fly rod is easy in a swift current. And you are right a fish feels MUCH bigger as the current increases. It is completely possible if you have the correct equipment, im using a 7 or 8 weight fly rod (pretty stiff) and a heavy duty reel designed for saltwater. It has a drag that can stop a salmon in its track (but your line would break). Please dont call me a moron, and im not from Canada. I dont know why you said that.
