Hi All,

Just wanted to add to the growing range of GS lovers and the wonderfull world of mods.

Take 1 stock standard gs500f 08.

Add to the mix:
1 x zero gravity dark smoke windscreen ($104 shipped from usa) - self installed (5 mins installed)
1 x Yoshi TSR Carbon Fiber Exuaghst ($699 from Aus) - Shop installed (spent 3 hours at shop)
1 x Stage 1 Jet Kit Performance Pro ($89 from Aus) - Shop installed and tuned (spent 3 hours at shop)
1 x k&n Air Filter resitrictor removed ($85 shipped from usa) - self installed (15 mins installed)
2 x Blue T10 12v LED's from jaycar for Speedo and Rev ($1.95 each) - self installed (20 mins installed)
1 x White T10 12v LED from jaycar for front parker ($2.95 each) - self installed (2 mins installed)
1 x H4 Xeon Artic White Headlight from EBAY :) ($89 comes in pairs Aus) - self installed (2 mins installed)
1 x Comfy Oxford Heated Grips from Ebay :) ($89 from Aus) - self installed (1 hour installed care taken)
1 x Sheep skin seat cover for my phat ass :P (30 self made) - self installed (1 hour to make and install)
1 x CUSTOM Numberplate (MYBABY) from my broken down BMW ($255 a year)

The end product is im EXCITED.
Preformance gain is what i expected. I need power to overtake from 110-120 to 130-140 I do alot of touring. In the 15 months i have had the bike i have added 22000kms to the clock. The gs suffers at that midrange response needed to wind the bike up as the speed build up is slow yes im on the larger size. Dont expect it to be a 600 cause it's not. Heated grips a must for South Australian Roads especilly in winter. The GS's seat is ok but needs that little extra padding for a long ride. Light s look cool throw more light at night which is somthing the gs lacks.
The bike looks cool and sounds like somthing other than a asthmatic posty bike (no offence to posties).

Overall around town im getting 290kms to the tank after the jetting. Open road around 285km the higher windshiled helps here as the wind resistance and sound is greatly reduced.

Next mods have to be the front suspension (way to soft) and a fendectomy.

Will post pics tommorow when im home.
Any questions just ask away.

Congratulations! I wish I could just make a whole lot of mods at once lol, but I do have one question: is stage one the highest you can go? or the least?

Hi,

From my limited knowladge of bike and carbs you can get a stage 3 for the gs. A stage 3 would only be somthing you would do if your racing.
Anyone else feel free to jump in as my knowladge is lacking is the fine details sorry.

Stage 1 / Configuration 1.0 Jet Kit
Intended for motorcycles with a stock engine using the stock airbox, stock/aftermarket air filter and stock/aftermarket exhaust. These jet kits are designed to improve throttle response and driveability and in most cases power increases of approximately 5% throughout the entire power range can be achieved.

Configuration 1.1 Titanium Jet Kit
Same as the Configuration 1.0 jet kits except with Titanium needles. Titanium needles are not affected by unleaded fuels and have an vastly extended lifespan when compared to stainless steel, aluminum or gray coated aluminum needles. Stainless steel allen screws for the float bowls are included as well.

Stage 2
Intended for motorcycles with a stock or mildly tuned engine using a well designed aftermarket pipe with a modified airbox and a stock replacement air filter. Stage 2 kits are designed for applications where individual filters cannot be installed and for applications where airbox modification improves the engine's performance. In most cases power increases of approximately 8% can be achieved.

Configuration 2.1 Airbox Plus Jet Kit (available for CBR900RR 1993-99 only)
This is one of the best CBR900RR jet kits available today. Adds up to 3-4hp at 7.5k+ rpm when compared to a properly jetted bike using a standard Conf. 1.0 jet kit. Replaces the restrictive stock/aftermarket air filter with external 2 air filter pods. The airbox exterior remains stock but requires internal airbox modifications. This kit produces more horsepower and costs less than other non pressurized airbox kit combinations. A must with ported heads or aftermarket cams. *Note-when used with restricted camshafts (as in California, France, and Switzerland) use 2 to 3 smaller sized main jets.

Configuration 3.0 Jet Kit
Similar as Configuration 1.0 jet kits but intended for motorcycles with stock or mildly tuned engines using an aftermarket pipe and individual air filters (airbox removed).

are you saying your only getting 290k's to a tank of fuel?

ive only had my 09 model (brand new) for 2 weeks and 3 days and i filled the tank then ran it till i hit res and that was 390k's (this happened as i left work) i kept going home on res aboout 35k's and then to find a petrol station that had 98 yesterday that was 29k's and i still had a good 2 and half inches left in the tank (i guess).

Some variances in fuel, sure. Some in riding Style - how long do you hold a gear before changing up. Some in how much you fill the tank - side stand, center stand, how much do you keep filling once it hits the neck in the tank, etc.

I generally get anywhere between 330 and 360 before hitting reserve. So once I hit 300 I start considering filling up. Or, like tomorrow I have a 90km round commute for work and the odo is on 273. So I'll tank up near where I'm working on the way in. By then it'll be around 316. But when I am working elseswhere and such a station isn't so close, I'll tank up on the way in and in this example it'd be around 275.

Yeh mine generally hits reserve at 320.

i was hoping for better fuel because atm iam doing the run in as stated in the book, and the whole not constantly sitting on one speed  tends to use  move fuel.

Around town I regularly get around 350kms before reserve with my best being 375.  The best I have returned out on the highway is 335kms.

Then why is it that most stupid people have no idea they're stupid?

ragecage23

wow, you guys get great mpg. I only get about 274 kms before fill up, but I ride around the town, not so much on the freeway.

depends on body weight of the rider too, climate, riding style, road conditions. fuel consumption varies with different people in my humble opinion. my style is hitting 5k rpm before changing up and blipping for change downs, but i rev it up once or twice up to 10k per fill up. I get about 280 -300 km, but im a bigger guy too, 95kg @ 5'9. hope that helped. Merry Christmas everyone.

I havnt dared to fully test my range yet but my biggest distance between fill ups combined highway and town, is 320 km and it was a 13L fill up. Which gives me an average of 4.06 L/100k and I didnt go onto reserve yet as well. I was using V-power and im 6ft 92kgs. But back on topic so far ive installed LED indicators and got them working easily and cheaply with help from the forum and a LED tail light is next along with K&N fingers crossed.

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Yep you just hit reserve  :thumb:

You must be doing a lot of city riding to only make 280?

So what you do now is, go and fill up your tank, reset the trip meter and switch from Res to On and ride away. Ride until you hit reserve again - keeping an eye as you near 280.

Expecting to get around 300 when the bike gets its next upgrade.
