I need a new pair of bars for my 92 GS500E.  Any recomendations on pull back and rise?

Fit what ever is comfortable and looks good to you. You can bring the bars up closer and higher to you by a bit before needing longer cables. Clubmans will fit but sit at an angle because it doesn't clear the top clamp. I've been using them like that and don't have any complaints.

Yeah I know this is kinda of a personal preference thing, but without anything to compare to it is kinda of a shot in the dark for me.  I like the low look and laying on the tank and the bars on it seem okay as far as postion.  But okay is just about it.  Sometimes my hands can get a little sore from leaning into the bars, but that goes away pretty quickly.  I wonder if a bit of higher rise with less pull back would help this?

Before you go down the bar swap route, grab some tank grips and try holding on a bit more with your legs.  There are a few threads about this topic kicking around but you don't want to spend any significant time leaning on those bars, it's no bueno.

I will change the grips but the bars do need to be replaced, being as they are bent.  Not to bad that I can't ride, but bad enough.  And besides that I want a set of black bars.

I also want to keep in mind that I may look for an aftermarket fairing and I would like to make sure the bars would not interfere.

It took me a little while to get used to the clubmans. I found at the beginning my hands and wrist were getting sore after even short trips. After a while you build up strength in your back and stomach to ride hunched over the tank without any weight on the bars, saving your hands and wrists. It's still not comfortable for long trips though, I find myself "resting" on the bars every once in a while especially on hilly roads.

the wiki has got some pics of different bars http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Handlebars

Thanks.  There is some good information there.  The superbike bars are starting to sound like the best bet for me.

I posted a pic of my wifes with black superbikes in this thread.  I like them.

Did cutting an inch off of each end make them more comfortable?

I just thought they looked a little goofy at their stock lengths to be honest.  I never had them fully setup to gauge the comfort level.
