Today I rode a 400km round trip to attend this. To register a vehicle, you need to purchase insurance which covers injuries in case of an accident. As of the 1st of July this year there was changes to the way motorcyclists are calculated, meaning some motorcyclists are facing a 100% increase and are paying for a 250cc motorcycle more than a car will pay. We may have had a win.

today I installed a crankcase breather on my 2003 VStar 1000 Classic. Then I attempted to start the GS, but once again she will only start, and run, poorly I might add, with the choke on, and then only for a min or two. Had her running great two days ago, and I didnt change anything. Oh, and the best part: now there is a LOUD ticking noise coming from my engine!! Wonderful!
Finally as the sun started to set, I rode the VStar to the beach and watched the sun go down. Good day.
All we are is the sum of our experiences.

Today, I studied biochemistry, anatomy, and physiology, so I can fix your face in said accident because you don't like proper helmets.

What were you saying about rising insurance premiums, again?

bubba zanetti

Thats sweet of you to worry about me Homer, but there's no need because I'm big enough, old enough and ugly enough to look after myself. Whats a "proper helmet", because I googled it all I got was "What you talking Willis".

I'll trade you mine, Bubba.  It's big enough to hold my ego (yeah, I said it), I'm sure it'll hold all of your ugly.   :flipoff:
Seriously, dude, please stop fighting with me and wear some gear.

I'm jealous of Rage's pain meds right now.  My mind's mush.  I've got the 6-hour entrance exam on Friday.  It's 3 a.m., and I've still got stupid pre-labs to finish before classes at 8.

Come Saturday, I'm getting wasted and attempting to screw something that won't complain.  A pre-teen cantaloupe, maybe a flirty potted plant.

Homer, you could always shoot for "medical" marijuana?

To register a vehicle in New South Wales, you need a 'greenslip' which is third party protection for persons injured in an accident, see below.

QuoteWhat is a Green Slip?

A Green Slip is an insurance policy linked to your vehicle that provides cover for compulsory third party (CTP) personal injury insurance when you or the person driving your vehicle is the driver at fault in an accident, and in certain circumstances regardless of who was at fault.

CTP Insurance is compulsory, and must be taken out when registering a motor vehicle. Wherever you live in New South Wales, your Green Slip will only cover your vehicle if it is registered. If it is not registered you may be personally liable for any injuries you cause in a motor vehicle accident.

Australia wide, 24 hours a day, your CTP insurance covers:

your passengers
other road users, such as drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, motor cyclists and pillion passengers
injuries caused through the use of a trailer
It does not cover:

damage to property or other vehicles
Improvements made to the Green Slip scheme since October 2006 provide even greater protection and benefits in certain circumstances regardless of who was at fault.  These improvements include:

a special children's benefit that means all children injured in car accidents in NSW receive the necessary treatment, rehabilitation and care to assist in their recovery, regardless of who was at fault.
introduction of the Lifetime Care and Support scheme that provides medical care, treatment, rehabilitation, attendant care and support to anyone catastrophically injured (such as severe spinal cord and/or a traumatic brain injury) in a motor vehicle accident for the rest of their life.
coverage for people injured in motor accidents where no one is considered to have been at fault including accidents caused by a driver suffering a sudden illness, such as a heart attack or stroke or accidents caused by an unexplained mechanical or vehicle failure.

As of the 1st July the categories of motorcycles changed as did the amounts paid. Some saved money, yet it cost others more money, some paying up to 100% increase on their premiums. Some 250cc bikes are paying as much for a greenslip as a car does.

Our Motorcycling representative body organised a protest to be held at parliment house on the first sitting day back from the winter recess. At high noon we meet at the front of parliment, the president of the MCCNSW (motorcycle council) gave a quick speech outlining that we are unhappy with these increases and gave the Premier of the state and the roads minister the opportunity to address us about this. The didn't accept the offer. The opposition minister for roads addressed us and said that if they get in next election they will look at fixing the problems with greenslip pricing. After this we left. There would have been up around 1500 people there. The premier has announced that there will be a review into motorcycle greenslip prices and the MCC may have a delegate on the board that sets greenslip prices.

About me wearing gear, I do wear gear, just not all the time. Around town in the warmer months I don't worry too much. If I'm going for a decent ride I wear gear, with dead cow being my choice of protection. I even have a back protector on order. I believe that wearing gear is something that we don't need legislated on us, we still need that personal choice of what we wear and where we wear it. My wife is learning to ride at the moment, I make her wear all the gear when ever she goes for a ride because she doesn't have the experience or skills to protect her. Same if any of my kids come for a ride on the back of the bike, full gear for them, because it's my duty to protect them and look after them the best I can.

+1

No matter WHO is in a vehicle you are operating (other half, kids, other relative, friends, coworkers, etc.), while they are in it it is your duty to protect them and look after them as best you can.
