Well here is my little story about my first accident.......

Driving to work in 40mph traffic, leaving a good space cushion, suddenly everyone stops short. I stop a few feet behind the guy in front of me. I then realize the civic behind me didnt think stoping in time was as important. He hits my rear tire, not hard enough to do rear end damage, but hard enough to push me the few feet into th car in front of me. Basically if i wasnt there he could have stopped before hitting the car in front of me, but i was.... So i slam into the cars bumper. Im dazed thinking WTF was that, see that im still alive and not laying on the road. The BMW driver i hit jumps out to ask if im ok. Then we both realize the guy who hit me took off. It all happened so fast we could get his plate as hit slipped back into traffic.......

Im ok, my legs are bruised and sore and my left shoulder hurts to move so im icing it now at work. Bike seems fine, still runs. The headlight is smashed and instrument pods are cracked. Also my speedo cable got messed up and fell out so thats a no go. Mounting brackets are probably bent too. As far as i can tell the forks are strait and i was able to ride it home with no issues. So if anyone has this parts give me a shout....

I guess it could have been worse. Im not that annoyed or POed because shaZam! happens and you gotta roll with it. Ill be back on the road some day........

I hope you filed a police report. Here in MO it's a felony to leave the scene of an accident if there was any personal injury or damage to property over $1000. Sounds like personal injury if you're bruised and sore in the shoulder and legs.

Glad it wasn't much worse though. A friend of mine was stopped at a red light. A big SUV behind him didn't stop at ALL, didn't slow down, etc. She never saw the red light. He flipped up into the air and the bike went about 200 feet down the road. He's still recovering...but he will be back on 2 once he's all fixed.

glad to hear you're ok. what an arse driving like that and taking off.

Well without any info besides its a red civic finding the guy will be next to impossible. I disnt report any injuries as nothing really hurt at the time. I might go get my shoulder looked at........ Damage was little to the BMW, just some scrapes and a little dent. Hopefully i can fix the GS cheap as i only have liability.

That's crazy man.  I got hit by a drunk driver about a week ago.  Same thing, I was sitting at a stop light, next thing I knew...I was rolling off the hood of a car.  Dude was plastered!  I didn't get hurt and the bike seems alright.  A few scrapes but I still drive it.

People are f%$king careless man.  Or carefree...The guy that hit me isn't going to be so carefree in Prison, though.

Is this a road you commute on everyday?   Odds are that d$()@*bag  probably does too....  If it's a road with traffic lights you might want to camp out  in that area (yeah who can miss the work/$$..) and see if you can pick the car out ( might have a dent in front or something...). I'd at least post some signs asking if anyone witnessed it with any info to contact you...

Anyway...glad you're ok ... could've been a bit uglier...

Karma....hopefully it will come back around to them quickly..

I like that idea -- good chance of seeing them if you target the same time of day.  They need to face the consequences of leaving the scene.

Also, there may be traffic cameras that recorded it if you were near an intersection.  Might check with the city?

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

They will definately be down the same road again. If they are smart, they may change up for a little while, but more than likely that road is there quickest way to commute and they will be back.

I can't stand rush hour traffic. Everyone is in such a hurry. Cheers to you street warriors who are bold enough to ride in it.

Twism86

Thanks for the support guys. It happened on I90 in a section with no cameras and I can't camp out to find him. I wish.

My legs are beat up and sore but ok. My left shoulder rotator cuff might be hurt. I'll have to wait a few days then see a specialist.

Watch out for shoulder injuries, this could follow you the rest of your life. Shoulders are tricky. I fell incorrectly (Jiu-Jitsu) 3 months ago, I went to a doc, physio etc, its going to be with me for the rest of my life they say. Told me that most shoulder injuries are like that. Mine was a fall of my own doing from a crouched position and I was well practiced, just a freak accident. Be careful with your shoulder.

Catching the buy might be simpler then you think. I'd at least try taking the same route around the same time of day. Good chance you will see the car again.

I think anyone involved in drinking or leaving accidents should loose their car (as in police take it, no compensation to the offender) and they should never be able to drive again, never. This would clean up the roads quickly. It would also do some economic stimulus blah blah blah because additional transport business would be built to support those who can't drive.

Watch out for your shoulder! Take it easy!

Damn man that's crap. Glad your ok for the most part. My wifes so worried about something happening to me. I commute 114 miles a day on the GS, and have close calls like every day. Odds are something will happen sooner or later.

It's true, eventually something will happen. Whether you're in a cage or on a bike, hardly anyone goes through their life with out an accident. Mainly my mom and girlfriend worry about me, and it sucks because I know that when I do go down (whether it be a bad accident or just a little accident) I know I'm going to get hell for it.

File the police report regardless - even if you didn't see it somebody else certainly would have. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll call secret witness?

Something to keep in mind if you ever witness a hit and run...

Twism86

Oh yea, I almost always stop when i see an accident where someone might be injured or a witness is needed to prove how wrong the other guy was.
