Yesterday I came across this adapter at my local crappy tire:

Would this be safe to use as is, or would I need to attach a fuse to it in case it shorts out?

Best to use a fuse.  That is for a temporary setup.  If it's going to be permanent, cut off the clips and use ring terminals and a fuse.

+1.

Only looks like a temporary/emergency solution to me. And even then, you gotta be very careful.

You definitely need a fuse on the (+) terminal.

anything he plugs into that will have a fuse of it's own, right? (that being said, I fused mine anyway.)

Now that I  think about it, if I hit a bump a lot of things could happen to those exposed terminals that could cause a short. Another option is to use the SAE terminals that came with my Battery Tender and buy an adapter that connects to it. This is what I have already:

It already includes a 75A fuse which fits in place under that black cover there.

This is what I need:

I found one on ebay for $10. With this setup I don't have to worry about anything bad happening because the circuit is already fused and it includes insulated end caps that fits over the SAE connector when not in use. Does this seem a better idea?

That looks like it would work pretty good. I'm thinking about relocating mine to the front fairing instead of under the seat.
