You could also do like some have done and cut the top-plate(grey handle bar mount) on the left and right so that you don't have to raise the forks as much, and you still have the mount for the gauges. Not easy but it has been done. Or remove the top plate entirely and make a plate that bolts on top for you to mount your gauges to. I've had my clip-ons mounted on top of the top plate for over 12k miles with no issues what so ever. Of course everyone and every bike is different.

Just an FYI, I know this post is old, but I tried to mount a straight set of bars with a 5-10 degree pullback on my F and they would not mount in the bar mount without hitting the fork spring cap. Look at the stock bars, as soon as the bar comes out of the saddle, the bar bends upward to clear the cap, just another issue to consider.

It sounds like your forks were raised up.  The fork caps are supposed to sit flush with the triple topplate, you can raise them up if you want to, but if your handlebars are hitting them, you can just lower the forks down to where they're supposed to be.

@007brendan , No my forks weren't raised. I took the top plate OFF, i.e.- what the bars mount to, then installed the clipons. I bought the bike new, no one else works on it.

I don't understand..Were the clip-ons hitting the fork caps? You got a pic?

I'd loosen the the clamps on the tripples drop the forks down a bit fit the clip-ons on then put the top triple back on, measure the distance from the top of the fork to the top of the triple with a digital caliper. You can pick one up at harbor freight for around $10-15
Current project:
Mmotos full body kit (YOU DONT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM... READ MY THREAD BOOT STATE UPDATE)
K&N Lunchbox
Buddah's jets
CBR F2 rearsets
Ducati pass pegs (Modified)
Kat rear wheel
Carbon Fiber Exhaust Can, possibly shortened and relocated
And so on......

No,, In my post I stated that when I mounted a set of bars, I meant handlebars, not clipons. Sorry for any confusion.
