Junior is getting a new fuel tank.

I couldn't pass up the chance to buy 2 BRAND NEW ORIGINAL fuel tanks for my 1992 GS500. I think I like the dark red one best. So Junior will get a brand new red tank. No need to check for rust or crud in these babys!
Matching tails are on the way - also originals. I might sell the lighter one with the pink stripes if someone is interested.

What a find! How many unused tanks of this vintage could there be in the world?

Was a throttle cable issue.  Used to hang the idle all the time......noticed it a few weeks ago while trying to jockey bike around.  Just loosened the cable and she's golden.

Bought a pit bull stand off of craigslist for $40. Very sweet deal, even with the 25 minutes of construction traffic I had to sit in, plus my dog farted in the car twice.

Got a Tank Protector off of ebay. It's in the mail.

Who woulda thunk plain black was so hard to get - one with a bikini clad cartoon girl, no probs, but plain black? Fergeddaboudid.

With the protector on I should get a few more HP out of her. Just buying it has increased the horses, so who can say how much more it'll be once I stick it on.  :icon_mrgreen:

Got her a brand spanking new front tire - so much more stable on the bends now!
Also, got her through MOT yesterday - I'm set for another year.

Im busy guy.

- I got the chain oiled and tight to specs. :-)

- Gave thanks to a forum fellow that helped.

- wrote to a local (spanish) forum about the solution.

Just ordered a new right side fairing, she'll be looking new in no time. After this is the right engine cover to be replaced and a nice paint job and she's on her way!

I tore the left side case off to inspect a suspected noise in my starter clutch, after  fighting to remove the rotor, I discovered that the 3 allen bolts holding the clutch assembly to the rotor had backed out causing it to bang around, luckily no major damage  :)

Just picked up a Starlane GPS lap timer...

So, my race bike now has a Tach (I stripped the mechanical tach off before the first race,) shift light, speedo (also stripped off,) lap timer, and data logger.

Added a "toe guard" designed for racing, but I think of it more as a finger saver when cleaning and oiling the chain. (Gotta take off that warning sticker - it is so annoying.)

Put an old style mud flap on my F's front fender. Should help keep things cleaner now that we're getting into more rain. Hard to see it because its black. I managed to install it without removing the fender (which requires removing the wheel).

Repainted the old factory clip-ons that I put on my 2009 GS500F. The paint nearly matches the factory paint on the instrument cluster (Rust-Oleum metallic black, not the textured or hammertone). Then put on new bar end weights from R&G Racing.

tt_four

Those bar end weights are pretty intense.

I did 150 miles of back roads today just so my bike would feel special. My ears also felt like they wanted to start bleeding, so I feel like I may go back to the stock exhaust soon.

ragecage23

Have you tried other after market exhausts? besides the V&H?

I've caught fingers between the chain and sprocket before. If the engine isn't running, it isn't a big deal...

adidasguy

Yea, I've never got caught. When wiping the chain I always slowly rotate the tire in reverse - there's plenty of stuff to keep fingers from the engine area if a rag gets caught. Bike is never running when working on it or cleaning it.

I thought that thing looked cool (and they were from the same place I bought the bar ends AND a crash slider for the F series, but that's not installed yet) so I bought them for both my bikes. After putting it on, I realized it was just one little extra bit of safety when working on them. Never know what might happen when rotating the back wheel to clean it or bump it when doing something else. Accidents do happen. (Its Ok to call me an old over-cautious geezer.)

Besides - Even though no real need for it for street riding, it give the bike that something special look. Can we say "Bike Bling Bling"?

So the V&H is really noisy? I got one for Junior (ok, that's what bike #2 is now called) but haven't put it on yet. I figured "why not?" The '92 exhaust is in unknown condition and he had been dropped by prior owners, so I thought something new was appropriate. I guess I'll try it and see.

tt_four

The ear bleeding isn't actually from the V&H on the GS. I always thought the V&H was way too loud until I got another exhaust for my other bike. The V&H on the GS doesn't sound quite as bad anymore. It's still loud, but it's bearable. I think I need one more EXTREMELY loud bike to make them both feel quiet.

adidasguy

Makes sense. If you have a pain in your foot, hit your hand with a hammer. The hand will hurt so bad you won't notice the foot. I think it works the same with bike noise.

I went for a ride yesterday and decided that I didn't need to sell it...I have room for 7 bikes  :woohoo:
