Just changed the spark plugs for the first time on my F  model............thought that the fairings were going to be a big PITA.........not so!

I read up on previous posts on this forum.......many are misleading as to the fairings being difficult to remove.....one post gives detailed instructions....very good.......but makes it seem like more complicated than it really was.......

I used to change the oil with the fairings on......fairly easy,...... but now I will remove the fairings to allow for cleaning off the front of the engine/oil filter cover area before removing the oil filter.........will make everything easier and cleaner too.

yep 7 screws and three clips and that's all that's to them. I haven't owned a bike that has difficult fairing to remove.

My Honda 1984 Elite was a lot of work to remove the body plastics.......

GS 500 F is a snap!

I can't even imagine plastics requiring a lot of work to take off, are they all just bolted on?

On the GS 500 F ....there is one "hidden" plastic pop rivet thingie.........if you miss this, and pull too hard when removing the fairing, you will break the fairing........Once you know where this thing is, no problem!

On the Honda Scooter, the plastics have an elaborate interlocking tab system, .....hard to get everything lined up at the same time, and on older machines some of the plastics have been cracked, warped, and repaired, and generally misalligned......

I assume you mean the large plastic connector dead center underneath the engine?

I believe Cookie is talking about the connector that clips the lower fairing to the upper fairing on both sides of the bike. I missed that one the very first time I went to take off the fairing, but I didn't pull hard because the bike was brand new and things should be easy to take off still, so nothing broken.

Right!.....The one under the bottom of the fairing is easy to see, if you look...........the one in the front, underside is hard to see, because it is black on black, and it is yet a different type of fastener, not an allen head bolt, and not a big plastic pop rivet deal like the bottom one, but rather a small black plastic pop rivet type fastener.
