Hello

I ride with friends who have much larger bikes, a Ninja ZX7R and GXS750, They don't ride too hard, but I am forced to be quite rough with my 2009 GS500F.
So my question is Am I wrecking my bike by riding often at Full throttle and shifting at the 9 thousand mark, or can it take it.

Thanks for your help
Some people say riding a motorcycle is dangerous, but only driving a car would definitely kill me.

yeah, it can take it. Overall life may be shortened somewhat.  Running at the limit requires more frequent and meticulous maintenance.

Change the oil and check valve adjustment a little more frequently than recommended and you'll be fine.

as long as it was broken in properly and regular maintenance is done often like said above.

I've always said you can get your best performance from a stock GS500 by keeping it in the 7-9k rpm range.  Max HP is at about 8500 rpm and it drops off sharply after that, no point in revving any further.  Max torque is around 7k rpm and up-shifting at about 9k will drop you to around 7k rpm right on top of the torque curve.  I ran my 97 GS at those engine speeds for hours on end running with bigger bikes and put a total of just over 80k miles on it in just over 4 years.

I'm running my 02 GS a lot easier now because I'm getting older not because it's getting older.  :icon_lol:  With over 82k miles on it now I expect to go over 100k miles on it without any major problems.  Time will tell.

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.
