my bike will run okay idling high, or ok at low rpms, or even high rpms if im maintaing speed, but accelerating requires high rpms or it will bog down for  a while, and decelerating creates a tapping/ clicking noise. also i hear this noise right about 1/4 or 1/3 throttle in any gear.  its not like a spun bearing though where it hits every revolution, its kind of a random tap/click.  also it comes with a slight loss in power.

If you hear a rattle at no load= absolute limbo, no load or compression and you can make it go away with compression or power....it's wrist pins

i switched those out a long time ago. and i even posted on a recent thread about the same issue that i got new caps, and you commented right after me.  but no, everything up top is fine, i pulled the side covers and everything looks fine.  i think its carbon build up. i tried some higher octane fuel to test that theory but not for very long. so i probably wasted my time with that test, but i got some Gumout fuel systems cleaner so we'll see.

actually its the opposite, it sounds fine at idle, sounds fine if im riding and hold the throttle in one spot, sounds fine if i rev it in idle, but when i put load on it, its starts to rattle. also once its warmed up, i have to keep it pretty high rpms to keep it from jerking around.  i ordered new shims for my intake valves cause there is no clearence.  im thinking this might fix the problem because when the engine warms up the intakes are always open alittle bit, but i dont understand how that would create a rattle sound, just explains the poor running at low revs.

EDIT: deleted a question i answered myself

also i have practically brand new connecting rods, big end bearings, generator rotor, starter clutch, gaskets all around, and spark plugs. the plugs are fine, the gen rotor is fine, starter clutch is fine, gaskets are fine.  I dont see why anything would be wrong with the con rods or bearings, but theyre the only new things i havent checked, simply because i dont want to split the cases until i know ill have too.....again.  so if this problem sounds like something that would go along with new any of that ^ then try to explain it to me cause i am at a loss.

its not carbon build up or you would have tons of clearance on your valves. if your at no clearance on a 255 your getting down close to service limit arent you.

i have no clearence on a 260. i ordered some 255.  but yea i guess after that i'll be pretty much there. but i do know theres alot of carbon build up, cause i was burning oil for a while and running rich. ive seen the carbon, or at least i did a few hundred miles back, i dont think it would have cleared up that quick. i tried using some Gumout fuel systems cleaner, and ran an entire GS tank of gas with the cleaner in it, but it still makes the sound.
