Ooo hey people  :) Quite long time admin needed to active my account but finaly he did it and i can bother this community  :icon_lol:

I'm Alexander (1989) from Serbia and i love two wheelers, mainly scooters  :thumb: Right now i'm on Aprilia Habana 50. Why i consider myself intruder here? Because i like Aprilia so much and its my fav, i'm not realy fan of Suzuki's but something brought me to the GS 500. To be clear, not something, i'm talking about financials. My first aim was Pegaso 650 but i couldn't afford good one so i'm thinking it will be best from me to get some cheaper bike which is easy to buy and maintain. So GS500 got me with that, cheap bike with solid power which take little but gives alot. I already picked one soon as i sell my scooter i go to take that GS, its 1991. It will be my first bike :) Mainly i was worried about size because im 193cm and almost 100 kilograms but suprisingly i fitted on GS and foot commands was on right place for me. Gearbox lever is good, rear brake lever so - so but is o.k. So this was about me and my wishes and expectations now im about to ask something: Does GS has some weak points on what should i pay attention, and, what i need to know about it when i'm buyin' and later ride it  :icon_question:

Cheers, i hope GS will be good pick and i hope and expect lots of safe KM's without problems :D

as long as you keep up with the preventative maintence its a very reliable bike. and the pre-maint is pretty easy compared to other bikes.  only weak points is (some say) suspension. but i never had a problem with my stock suspension at 5 ft 6in and 130 pounds

Everybody is welcome here!  :)

Fork seals can be a problem.

Thanks! I have just one more question: GS that i want to buy has some noise from engine. It works perfectly but there is something fuzu, i think that is time chain. Some of GS user says its common thing with those engines?

Welcome.

How many km's on the bike?

Do not look for problems that are not there.

If many km's, then there is the potential that the cam chain is worn out.  That does not mean that it is.

If not, then it might be general engine noise.

GSJack's bike is gonna hit 100k MILES. Your 50,000kms is only 31,000 miles. Looked after there should be HEAPS of life in it yet.

It depends on what year's model they are.  1989-2000 are all the same.  2001-2003 have carburetors that are different than the 1989-2000 models.  And, 2004+ have slightly different carbs than the 2001-2003 models.

The Slingshot refers to the carbies. So a 500E could have slingshot carbs. So the bike could be advertised as a GS500 Slingshot or GS500E, depending on who was writing the ad. Other than that, the standard year differences apply - tank, seat, colors.
