I need some help. The last 3 days i started my bike cold and noticed that when i start my bike with no choke, i have to give it a little throttle and it will idle. But as soon as i open the choke, the needle on the tach starts to go up and down between 200-800 rpms and then my bike dies. As soon as i open the choke it dies within 5 seconds. My bike never did this before, and i dont know why it is doing this. I tried warming the bike up without the choke and it takes forever. But once my bike is warm i tried using the choke just to see what happens and the tachometer goes up like its supposed too. Any help??? :dunno_black:

When was the last time your carbs were cleaned? Might be due for a scrubbing.

I just recently purchased the bike. Its a 2007 gs500f and only has 29xx miles on it. The last owner only did an oil change, and lubed the chain regularly. Thats all the maintenance that he did, as far as i know.

Why are you starting the bike without choke?  Are you saying that you can't start the bike with choke?  Are you giving it full choke or just a little?

On my bike, after starting it with choke and letting it warm up, when I start letting off the choke, the bike will actually idle better with no choke than using a little choke.

The bike only dies when i try to do a cold start, and open the choke all the way.

If you're able to cold start it, why even use choke?  If it stalls out on a cold start, why not just start it with the choke?  I guess I'm a little confused about your process.
